Amar and the Staff

First of all, welcome back Amar! He is a great teammate and an even better representative of the school. The fact that he even came back says a ton about his character.

However, I truly think that this is a black eye for the coaching staff. To summarize the situation, this is what appears to have happened: they basically told Amar to leave because they really didn't see much playing time for him next year/they wanted better players/he didn't fit what they were trying to do. Then they tried to go out and get those better players, but failed....and now as a result they asked him to come back. It's like begging your ex to take you back after you broke up with them for someone else. I understand that this is a business, and is all about winning. However, to treat good people like that just doesn't seem right.

Amar is the type of player who is going to give it his all every day in practice, and do whatever it takes to make the team better, regardless of individual statistics, and every program in the country needs players like that. And as good as the staff has been, they really dropped the ball on this one.....

The staff didn't drop anything. It would appear that had Livingston signed he would have been a huge upgrade from Amar and a possible starter. Using two scholarships for what is the equivalent of top 50 players in the transfers was a no brainer. Amar did not have to return if he had found a better situation and this experience will only make him stronger and even more focused on reaching his potential. At 6'9 even if he never starts at St. John's he will likely play pro basketball overseas by the time he graduates.
