Alumni Game

Quick question:

How many people do you think would attend a St. John's alumni basketball game at CA ??

Perhaps a game of former (and younger) St. John's players vs. an "All-Star" team of former players from Fordham, Iona, Hofstra and Manhattan ??

Maybe all proceeds could be donated St. John's Bread and Life.

Would very much like to read what you think. Thanks !!!

Most schools don't involve other schools. Most schools have Alumni games with just their own athletes. That would be more interesting than involving other schools to me.

I think it's a good idea. I would attend

I think they should start with making season ticket seat selection night on a weekend and making a big BBQ out of it to get people back to campus.

Sorry, Im still very bitter about Wednesday at 6pm.

But to stay on the subject, most schools have an alumni weekend, usually homecoming weekend. But, since we don't have a football team we should still have an alumni weekend every year to get people back to campus. Still commuter campus mentality.

Cornell lax does an odd vs. even alumni game and "young" alum vs. current roster (as well as a golf tourney, dinner, etc).. It's more a homecoming for the lacrosse guys than an event that draws a crowd, but I would be interested in watching something like that with SJU hoops.

Excellent point, a homecoming/alumni weekend to tip off basketball season is a great idea. Midnight Madness is great but getting alumni involved may also help resurrect the fan base.

I'm not sure I understand your frustration with the 6 PM start. Can't you just call the athletic dept, and while you look at a seat map, ask them what sections/rows are available?

St. John's does have a big outdoor lawn part for alumni each year. I believe it just occurred.

St. John's Baseball also does an Alumni game in early October. It follows and intra-squad scrimmage. Like Cornell Lacrosse, it's more of a homecoming for the former players and of course does not draw a crowd, but it probably goes a long way in keeping guys informed on what is going on and probably helps in the long run with fundraising.

I would like to go to a Alumni game/event but, live in SCarolina so it's doubtful. It's a great idea though..

Redjohnnies, I'm not sure I understand your displeasure about Wednesday at 6pm? Is that when season tickets are selected? If it is, it doesn't give much time for those who work to get there, does it? If that's the case, I think you should be displeased.

Lastly, most of our Alumni were commuters and will likely still be the majority of Alums for many years to come.. Excepting the Lavin era, most of our former BB players were Metro NY kids too. Unless, I'm wrong, only Felix and CO could be the only NY kids on this year's roster..

.

Honestly, although I think the event could be held on a weekend or later in the evening, it isn't like there is a big run on season tickets. If you miss the event there will still be plenty of good seats available. And, as many have commented here before, even single game tickets discounted on travelzoo and groupon have turned out to be better seats than some season ticket holders have access to - meaning St. John's is holding back better seats to be sold on a per game basis than they are making available to long term season ticket holders.

Calling Felix and CO NY kids is like calling Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman Angelenos. Not even.

Jsj great idea but keep it in the SJU family only have the game maybe before a November December non conference game at ca. Unfortunately you can look it up, but I bet the last time we sold out a home ca November/December non conference game was early into the Jarvis era.

This kind of event with the right names could move the needle
