All SJU Coaching Staff?

As I was watching the game last night, I believe I heard them say that everyone on the UCONN coaching staff either went to UCONN or at least had some ties to the university. I think that that is something that we have been missing...coaches who have been a part of and experienced this program prior to joining the staff. Who on our staff had any ties to the program prior to being hired as a coach?

So if you had to pick our coaching staff, let's say 1 head coach and 3 assistants, made up of only individuals that have connections to the university, who would they be?

How many programs are like that? Maybe duke? I can't think of any other major programs.

I think that in the last 30 years only three former players have been members of the coaching staff: Ron Rutledge, Ron Stewart and Billy Singleton.

But we´ll be the team with more guys (4) associated with another university (UCLA). ;)

Duke is right (other than Coach K who is an Army grad) with Wojo, Capel and Nate James as assistants, Scheyer as "Special Assistant" and Pat Thompson, a former team manager, as DOBO.

Rumor is they are talking with Jay Williams to fill Wojo's spot so the 100% Duke staff (other than K) would continue.

HC= Mark Jackson

Asst = Terrence MULLIN

asst=Bill Wennington

asst=tarik turner

If you're looking for experience Rob Werdann has been on and off a few NBA benches as assistant the past few years. Right now he's an assistant in the D League.

Jumbo, you make an excellent point. We should have an all SJU assistant and associate head coaching staff. As with the Duke model, I'm OK with our HC no coming from SJU.

From 1914-1915 to 1992-1993, with the exception of one year and the Lapchick years St. John's .was coached by an almunist. Yep that right Mahoney took over and the program went to hell,

I could get on board with Werdann. I think we desperately need a big man COACH. iF WE EVER GET A BIG MAN..That's why I suggested Wennington, who had a great career here and the NBA.. i like Turner because he's been around the game as a broadcaster and he's a former PG. i think he's a pretty smart guy too..
And, everbody wants Mullin to be a Coach.. More likely it's Terrance rather than CHRIS but, that's ok..

Jackson? If he were available , I'd open up Repole's wallet again.

Obviously Chris Mullin would be the All Time get! I think having Tarik involved somehow would be great. He's very knowledgable and loves the University.

Difference is they come from winning programs

Why is everyone so eager to hire people who have never coached before?
Mullin? Has never coached anyone to do anything, and has never recruited a single player. Tarik? same

At least Werdann and Jackson have coaching experience. I don't necessarily want them - but there's a good argument for them
Everybody else? not so much.

I have no problem getting some people in here who actually care about this program. Gimme Jackson, Werdann and Abdelmassih. Maybe add Massiello to recruit.

There isn't one qualified alum out there that I would hire. Those that do have some basketball coaching experience are either full of themselves or could care less about alma mater. I would (bite my tongue) hire Jim Calhoun before I would hire that phony fornicator Mark Jackson who has never gone out of his way for St. John's since he left. If you really want to shake up this old boat throw $2.5 million at Mike Hopkins or mini-Pitino or Shaka Smart. Oh, who am I kidding???
