Truly one of a kind.[/quote]

While Al and Dick are known for their basketball fame, the truly "one of a kind" McGuire was their brother John. My wife, an Irish gal, baby sat for John's second wife Kathy. John was a notorious gambler and once co-owned the nightclub Pep McGuires on Queens Boulevard. He took after the patriarch of the family who owned a bar in the Rockaways. It's a small world!:)

Was Al McGuire ever interested in coaching at his alma mater? Was he considered after Louie left for the Nets in '71?

No he was not interested and even if he were St. John's was not paying above minimum wage handshake agreements.

Pretty good staff with McGuire, Rick Majerus and Hank Raymonds.

My mom grew up in Belle Harbor Rockaway Queens; she knew the McGuire family. She wasn't a big fan, she used to say "they acted like 'who they were' "--- in her words.

I think since my mom and her parents weren't drinkersTHAT might have influenced her opinion a bit. (Her son does not take after her side of the family :p)
