Al McGuire / IBD

Always felt that Al and the strength of the NYC High School recruiting base in the late sixties and seventies would have been a dream situation for SJU.
 
Identified with Al McGuire , St. Johns prep and St. John U . Great stories about his recruiting trips to courts at 108 St. in Rockaway Beach . I always looked forward to watching and listening to him , Billy Packer and Dick Enberg do the games on NBC . A few years ago I attended The play McGuire at Hofstra theatre. It was written by Dick Enberg . After the play Dick answered questions about his relationship with Al . Interesting that he and Al did not get along at first but over the years they developed a very close relationship .One of my most prized possessions is an autographed picture of Al that the present Bishop of Brooklyn Raymond Chapetto was able to get for me . I'm looking forward to reading some of the books written about Al .
