Adonis De La Rosa

the scoop

New member
Can someone advise why Adonis De La Rosa has not been playing for the Redmen?

I read that he has been reinstated after initially being ruled ineligible to play. I've seen his brother, Joey, spelling Oblockpa at times but Adonis is also listed on the roster but except for one appearance in one of the early "exhibition games" has not play one minute once the regular season started.

I would appreciate anyone who knows for sure what the story is with Adonis.

Thank you.

He was deemed a partial qualifier, meaning he can practice but not play in games.

His HS coach let the NCAA know that he shouldn't qualify to get back at Lavin for not letting his nephew walk onto the team.

I give Lavin credit in that situation for not folding like a cheap suit just because the CTK coach wanted his (fat) nephew to walk onto the SJU team.

ADR should be ready to go next year. And he will be expected to contribute too.

To SJU14:

Thanks for the reply - I thought things may have changed since November, especially when I saw Joey's uniform read J. De La Rosa, meaning ADR was also uniformed and just not playing.

Avon I saw ADR at CTK last week. He does not look any different physically than he looked last year. When you say he's expected to contribute, are you making the assumption that he's going to work his butt off and get himself in shape for next season? Or do you think he's capable of contributing in the shape he's in? Also any sense of whether he'll get this year back?

This year he won't play. I think we will be depending on him to step in and give us at least quality minutes as a big body. I'm not saying average a double double but with the impending departures from the team guys will have to step up and he will one of those players. I've seen him and I agree he is in very bad condition for a basketball Player. I am saying him being in shape next year can go a long way helping the team where we can potentially have a very short roster again. The former player I can best compare him to is Ed Brown who had the same build....he wound up transferring to URI and turned into a pretty good player.

Honestly I'm not hopeful of him getting in too good of shape because he has had all this time now to do it but hasn't. Its a lifestyle change for that athlete and you have to have the will to do it.

It's a shame because from the comments of some of the guys who have seen him play is that he has a good skill set. The kid should be doing whatever he can to maximize his abilities with his size

I'm very glad Lavin didn't cater to that tool and twitter whiner

Think he's got a few inches on Brown, and considering his game that's hugely beneficial if he gets himself in shape. However I think he's got a very very long way to go before he's in good enough shape to play at this level.

That should be a red light to other good city ballers. Don't go to CTK or your coach might f you over when you go to college.

The good news is he's young so it's easierthan a40 year old making a new yard resolution and he's got 9 months to do it so if he starts now he would be fine. The staff should have a special trainer for him and he should be following a meal plan with limited carbs or carbs only after exercise which would accelerate his weight loss.

The bad news is he has been enrolled at SJU for over a semester now and he's been practicing w the team so I don't know why we haven't seen a change or why the staff hasn't addressed this issue yet.

100% mj.

I've been critical of Lavin but here he really did a great job of standing up to this buffoon

Haven't any of the writers who cover the team asked Lavin about this in press conferences? The good news is they seem to get most of their info from this board, so they'll probably read this thread and hopefully bring it up.

Yea thankfully they read this board for info and not the Twitter account of One of board's posters (although that account is now private) lol

Agree. Why aren't they forcing him to get in shape? He's on scholarship, kick him in the ass.Give him a schedule to follow and let him know he has to get down to a certain weight. What's so hard about that. Where are the nutritionist and strength coaches?

SJU should hire a personal trainer to just work with ADR. His shape reminds me of the summer Rick Pitino, new coach of Providence, met Billy Donovan. Among his first comments to Donovan was essentially, "You're fat. Get into shape if you want to play." Donovan responded and had a banner year, and Providence went to the Final Four.

On the negative side of the equation, Wayne McKoy refused to run the arena stairs with the rest of his teammates to get into shape, and had little interest in improving his game. Carnesecca let him off the hook. His teammates asked "Wayne, what are you doing? You've got to get in better shape" McKoy's response, "I'll do it at the next level (NBA)" Of course, there was no next level.

What happened to our strength and conditioning coach. A few years back, we had one of the most fit teams in the country.
