Adam Zagoria Updated Rankings SJ #2

Something just seems wrong about updating the rankings right after a young kid just suffered a potentially career-threatening injury.

He's not in the business of emotion though he predicts how teams will finish. Losing him is huge especially because Porter is gone already. It's sad, but it no doubt affects how dangerous of a team they are. Just like how we lost Harrison, it totally killed us. If Creighton lost McDermott for the year Creighton may go from top 3 consideration to 7th if not worse. Just the nature of the beast unfortunately.

I expect that between now and the start of the season you will a few more of these "Pre-season" rankings with a wide range of disparities when it comes to us. I'm sure we will be picked anywhere from a top 3 finish to as low as 6. There are quite simply those who already believe we have turned the corner, and those who will take a "wait and see" approach.

I'd be extremely disappointed if we don't fight for first place especially with our experience and new additions, Sanchez and Jordan. Plus let's not forget God's Gift. Talk about athleticism on this team. Rebound that basketball and run, run, run.

I don't know about that. After all these seasons, I just kind of take it as it comes, and hope to see very good basketball.

If you remember, two years ago in the NCAA's we were given a lower seeding BECAUSE DJ Kennedy suffered a season ending injury in the BET, and not because of our overall record. It seems to me, you earn your seeding all season long, and don't get bumped down or up because a player is out or coming back.

I think these are two very different situations. IMHO, Zags updating his rankings a week after he put out his original rankings solely because of a 20-year old's potentially career-threatending injury is distasteful to say the least. I guess I shouldn't expect much from a glorified poster.

As for the seedings in the tournament, I agree with you that I think they are earned during the regular season and should not just be predictions of the how the tournmanet will play out. It doesn't matter to me the name on the back of the jerseys, just what the name on the front accomplished before the tournament. Would it makes sense to award a 13-win team that won the conference a #1 seed just becasue they got 4-5 lottery picks eligible to play the last month of the season? I say no...even if they are the clear favorites to win the tournament.

Agree with you on both points. I was just saying. It's poor taste, and you know, sometimes way way off in terms of predicting.

While I agree that seedings are earned and should not automatically change based on injury, I don't see anything wrong with changing predictions or pre-season rankings if a key player will be out for the season. It definitely changes the dynamics of a team.

If the point is that it was callous and inconsiderate of Whittington's feelings to change his prediction so soon after the injury, I don't really see that as a big deal. Does anyone think the kid, his parents, family, friends or teammates care?
Betting lines change when a player gets injured. Does it matter to anyone other than the bookmakers and bettors?
