ACC - MSG?

Because of the Atlantic Coast Conference's increased footprint in the Northeast, the ACC is interested in holding a future men's basketball tournament in New York, an ACC school official told ESPN.

The deadline to bid for the 2016-21 ACC tournaments was in September, and New York's Madison Square Garden and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn did not submit a bid.

However, because of the league's changing membership, the ACC is now considering other options for future tournament sites, the source said.

Besides New York, other cities being considered to host the 2016-21 ACC tournaments are Atlanta (Philips Arena), Charlotte, Greensboro, N.C., Tampa, Fla., and Washington D.C.

The 2013-15 ACC men's basketball tournaments will be held in Greensboro, but beyond that, the ACC is looking to move the tournament to a variety of cities.

Four cities -- Miami, Orlando, Pittsburgh and Atlanta (Georgia Dome), who all submitted a bid to host a tournament between 2016-21 -- have been eliminated from contention to host. Despite the Georgia Dome hosting the two highest-attended conference tournaments (the 2001 and '09 ACC tournaments), it was eliminated because of the ACC's preference to place future tournaments in more traditional basketball arenas instead of domes.

On Friday, league athletic directors, staff members and faculty advisers completed three days of the ACC's winter meetings in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

This fall, Pittsburgh and Syracuse will join the ACC, with Louisville and Notre Dame expected to join in 2014, sources told ESPN.

I don't want to see their league tourney at MSG. I don't think most member teams do either except Cuse. The C7 needs to get things together and book our league tournament at MSG every year so the Garden has a yearly reliable client. I have no doubt tht is what our goal is. Hopefully we can clear some things up soon and get some invites and tv contract stuff moving forward.

I really don't think the ACC is a threat to take MSG. MSG doesn't want any part of being in a rotation, they would much rather have the C7 with guaranteed bookings every single year.

Sure. Jim Dolan's not the type of guy who'd let the possibility of having a big payday get in the way of his loyalty to the Big East.

Which is exactly my point as to why he wouldn't schedule the ACC on a rotating basis. The C7 will give him a week of events every single year guaranteed. The ACC will give him a week of events once every 6 years.

And I'm sure he'd do everything possible to squeeze them in, even at the expense of the new "Big East" ... especially if the ACC can put more fannies in the seats.

I'm not so sure MSG would do that to the C7 and risk losing them for good.

To whom? Without MSG, the C7 is just a step above the A-10.
