AAU Shoe Contracts and Recruits

I saw UC_Bearcats say in another thread:
"Honestly I see him going to Cincinnati based on the Adidas connection (his AAU is adidas). I know its a shady tactic, but all schools do it... "

And other posters had mentioned the same thing about Kyle and UCLA, or Shabazz and UCLA.

Can someone explain why kids would go to a school under contract with the same supplier as their AAU program?
I'm not naive, I understand it's rumored they do that because there's an under the table benefit for them somehow, but how? How does it benefit them to go to a team with the same shoe company sponsoring them?

Thanks to anybody who can shed some light on this practice. I know there's usually no proof of this, but I've heard it mentioned several times now and would be interested in why it allegedly happens.

It benefits the shoe company because a guy like Muhammad may stay loyal to Adidas when he decides to go pro. They can market their shoe through Muhammad in hopes of racking in bucks via high sales.

By the way, Kyle Anderson's AAU squad was actually funded by Nike.

Kyle's AAU team, The Playaz are sponsored by NIKE now. How ever, it is not uncommon for a shoe company to approach representatives of a player and state that there is a good chance that if said player goes to a certain school, he will receive a Sneaker contract when he enters the draft. Some AAU coaches push players to sign with the same school that they have a contract with to get more from the sneaker company, being "Loyal". As far as Cincy is concerned, if it walks like a duck and it talks like a duck, it is a DUCK. Something Foul going on.

 Ok, thanks MJ and Panther.

And I didn't mean to imply KA did this, I just recall people posting that it was surprising he chose UCLA because they were an Adidas school. And I never understood how the whole shoe thing influenced college decisions.

Now I got a feel for it. Thanks

The sneaker money goes very deep; many believed the only thing keeping St. Pat's alive was Kevin Boyle's sneaker money and lo and behold, the school folds a year after he leaves. Not blaming him; it's just the way it is (was).

AAU coaches get money to speak at sneaker company sponsored camps. Sneaker companies benefit form having their shoes featured at schools who play nearly an entire schedule on big audience tv. Players are getting under the table money, or those close to them are. There's too much money at stake for this NOT to be dirty.
