Yahoo Sports Blog - AAC Lost 45% Of Its Football Playoff Revenue

"The AAC saw its overall revenue decline from $27.9 million in 2013, the final year of the BCS, to $15.2 million in 2014, the inaugural year of the College Football Playoff. The reason for the decline is that the AAC, which was formerly the Big East, was no longer classified as a “Power Five” conference and therefore didn’t command the lion’s share of revenue it used to receive."

Just another reason why Yukon should drop FB and join the Big East
Play to your strengths - men's and women's basketball
IMHO, football is a lost cause at Yukon
Will probably not happen - too much $$$ tied up in facilities, etc

Has anybody ever heard the words "I can't wait to watch the Conn football game this Sat."?

Most state universities in the northeast don't play FBS football and they get by just fine. This includes Vermont, Maine, NH, UMASS, Rhode Island and the Four SUNY Centers that all play division 1 basketball at varying levels. Not sure why UCONN has this great need to play in a crappy conference that nobody cares about.

They probably thought that they could build a nationally competitive football program the same way they built the basketball program. Before joining the Big East, Yukon was lousy in basketball. Hiring Calhoun away from Northeastern turned it around.

The problem is that they poured a ton of money into the football program including a brand new stadium and other facilities. I just don't see them throwing in the towel at this point. Most of the other schools you mentioned don't play "big time" football or basketball (ie: Vermont, Maine, NH).

My guess is that the decision makers at Yukon figured that they would be absorbed into one of the "power" football conferences. But, instead of being in the ACC, they are in the AAC.

What a difference one letter makes!!

True. They got euphorically dizzy on the success of their men's and women's basketball programs, and assumed that they could do the same with football. Pure hubris. The only downside for us is that they might be able to exploit those UConn-Tulsa and UConn-Tulane meetings into something bigger than our well-established BE rivalries. :)

1. The University of Buffalo competes in the MidAmerican Conference which is FBS. In2013 UB played SanDiego State in the prestigious "Great Idaho Potato Bowl" (yep, that was really the name of the Bowl).

2. I read the fan message boards for many of the AAC schools. The delusional fans for Yukon, Cincinnati, Temple, SMU, USF, and others all believe that an invite to the ACC is forthcoming any day now.

UConn joined went full fledge D1 (now FBS) football after some moderate success in 1AA (now FCS) and they did it at a time the BE was looking to expand and keep other teams. So let's not jus pile, dirt on them for that because the BE as we knew it could have imploded a few years back and the outcome might not have been as good for it as it currently exists which is still a far cry from what it was.

True, they were pushed by the Big East as a league, but every school was really only out for themselves.
Now look at this from ESPN

Average football attendance for FBS schools worst in at least 12 seasons.
and it's going to get worse.

Wow, talk about desperate....counting down the days until your "big" game with UCF?!?!

UConn to the Big East? No No No No No No No No No No... and No.

Mike, it hurts me to state that our league needs uconn hoops. I've been to the first two BET's and watched each game. It is still a very good atmosphere, but adding them back into the mix would sell it out again
