A shorter offseason?

Don't know when this would take effect, but:

Dan Gavitt said NCAA looking at possibility of starting season a few days earlier -- mid-week -- to get more attention rather than on a football weekend.

Jeff Goodman, ESPN Insider

Personally, I think the regular season actually needs to start later. Much, much later. Something like January 1, with the NCAA Tournament becoming "May Madness."

There's just too much football for most people to care about before the new year, and some people don't pay attention to college hoops until after the Super Bowl.

Yes, the tournament would be up against the NBA and NHL playoffs, but I still think the one game and out format would do well ratings-wise, unless there is a game 7 going on in one of those leagues.

I agree with SJU61982. Competing with college and pro football is too changeling and hurts college bb in both attendance and press coverage. If a move to a Jan or Feb start is out of the question than schedule more Fri night games in Nov and Dec instead of Sat or Sun.

I can barely wait until November. Start the season later over my dead body.

......well, I guess that's a little dramatic. But, I am against it.

Having a May Madness is just as bad. You have to compete with NBA and NHL playoffs and the start of MLB.
