I thought we would get killed without Ponds and probably 3 times during the 2nd half I thought we were done. BUT OUR GUYS didnt back down. Undermanned and double overtime. I dont know what to say. No quit in them

I'm prouder of these guys tonight than after the Duke game

GREATJOB !!!!!!

And staff too. I'm so glad they weren't killing the clock at the end so they could get the ball back just in case

I must admit I take these games too much today heart do I decided to neither watch nor listen ( I prefer the radio) to the game...
I did not think they would win - certainly w/o Ponds
Which broadcaster would say
“Are you lifting me?”
Warner Wolf?
One thing Chris Mullin promised - no not Ws - that his team would be the best conditioned and hardest working squad
I look forward to reading all the posts herein - I’m sure they uplifting
Goodnight to all &

Have to give some props to Amar Ali B.. for really putting in the effort. He missed all his shots, but competed for every minute he was on the floor, had a nice block and steal, and set some nice screens. Great job by everyone and the staff for beating a team that cleaned our clocks earlier this season.

Great effort by the entire team. Fantastic atmosphere at CA down the stretch.

What an unbelievable game. It was so great that they were able to come out winners. Hope this is the start of a Senior Day Tradition.

It did continue a bobblehead day tradition. We have never lost the day/night of a bobblehead giveaway. That includes both Malik Sealy days. The one that was originally scheduled (but delayed due to west coast dock strike), and the game the following season, when they gave away the leftovers (I think that was in the Gavitt Games against Rutgers).

Unbelievable, gutty, gritty win by an under-manned, quitting-is-not-in-our language, talented and proud, team. And to you too Shamorie—who have led us all year—when often anything that could’ve gone wrong did. You guys have made us proud!
Thank you.
We are St. John’s.

When all the hope that the season began with disintegrated with an 11 game losing streak, it would be so easy for our team to lose focus, cash their chips, and give up. The coaches, too.

When the wheels fell off for Mike Dunlap year year 2 of the Lavin regime, the team never recovered. When the wheels fell off for Matt Doherty in North Carolina, a blue chip loaded team went into free fall and gave up.

The never say die, keep working, be confident, stay with the plan attitude of this team all begins with leadership. The leadership Marvin Clark provides with strength of character, that Ponds provides by deed, that each rotation player follows suit.

But it's more than that, much more. This team isn't rudderless. That leadership begins at the top, with Mullin and his entire staff, lead assistant St. Jean, the ever positive Matt, and presumably Richmond.

This is a losing year by record, but beyond that something extraordinary is building. I hope enough of us can finally see and enjoy it.

Have to admit when I saw Ponds was out my interest in the game plummeted. I turned it on and promptly dozed off. Luckily I woke up with about 11 minutes left in regulation and saw the rest. Great effort by the team and great decision by Mullin to go two for one at the end. Can't believe Alibegovic played 40 plus minutes. Nice way for him to go out. I'm sure PC isn't looking forward to playing them on Saturday.

Nah Beast, for some, it goes possession to possession, lmao. That is why I never post during the game. I have much respect for these players, they never gave up. RESILIENT.

On another note, I have to mention St. Jean. After Simon threw a poor pass that led to a turnover in the 2nd half, St. Jean got on him and told him he needs to be aggressive and take it to the basket. Simon listened, then proceeded to score on layups.

1. There is a lot of fight in those dogs.

2. Ponds comes across a a very nice kid. TV glimpses of him during the game confirmed that he was really pulling for his teammates.

3. Simon, a sophomore will play professional basketball after he finishes his career at St.John’s. He has size, length, and intelligence.

4. Yeah, the season has been disappointing but there have been some real bright spots.

5. Games like last night are why we remain St.John’s fans..... just when you are about to give up hope and turn the game off the underdogs win a game you’re din’t expect. ..... on to the Big East Tourney, and hope for one or more surprises.

A great night and a great day to be a fan of the team. Yesterday’s commitment of a high quality player and person bodes well for the program for today and the future 4 seasons. Here’s to Marcellus being a part of many an exciting win in his tenure at SJU.

Wanted this win and when I learned of the Ponds injury, figured: No Way.

These guys proved me wrong. Now I'd love to beat Cooley and the Friars, GO JOHNNIES!

Great "W".
