It's hard not to be outraged and saddened by the hatred that would cause someone to kill innocent civilians, especially children. I've been rough on FH over the past couple of months, but the following is the kind of message that all alumni and friends of St. John's will find worthy:
Just e-mailed to alumni:
On behalf of the entire St. John's University community, I am writing to extend our prayerful compassion to the victims of the tragedy that occurred yesterday in Boston. Many of our alumni either live or have family and friends in the Boston area, and their closeness to this terrible event undoubtedly made it even more frightening on a very personal level.
At this time of incredible sadness, I ask that you spiritually join with everyone in our St. John's family and ask God to bless those impacted by this act of unprovoked violence. Please pray for the souls of those who have lost their lives, and for the safe and swift recovery of the injured, both physically and emotionally.
I also ask that you pray for an end to the hatred and violence that lies at the heart of acts such as this. With God's help, those among us who embrace cruelty as a means of expression will never again have an opportunity to destroy the lives of the innocent.
Thank you and God bless you.
