A great article on Tim Cluess

Great piece. Remember watching Hank play when I was an undergrad. Not a star, just a solid black & blue player with a high BB IQ. And yes, as is mentioned in the piece, Hank had a huge play against the great Cazzie Russell in the title game of that unforgettable '64-'65 Holiday Festival win over Michigan ... one of the sweetest wins ever in St. John's history.

I did not know Tim Cluess was a Nassau cop(did he do 20 years on the job) and get a pension?

Thanks,

I noticed the first person to respond to a thread with even a slight scent Iona was Mrs. Baldi, or Michelle.

I am at the point now when anyone types the word "Iona" on this site, it should be viewed as something like "That New Rochelle school no one here gives a flying flip about except one or two spam artists who won't be anywhere near this site next year."

I will ask Paul about this change.

One of the best articles I've read re St. John's. I was at school for the end of Greg's tenure and the start of Kevin's, with Louie and Mulzoff coaching. No final fours, but post-season play every year. All things considered, college basketball was a less corrupt place back then, prior to ESPN and AAU emerging on the scene. The Cluess family represents the best qualities from that era. I'm not a fan of Iona, but I'll pull for them, as long as Tim is their coach.

i had the good fortune to be friends with greg and his wife to be at the time, linda. i'll root hard for iona as long as tim is coaching there. he's st john's family and that's what we do.

Jack Molinas

jack molinas came before that.

Jack Molinas - the witch hunt that surrounded the investigation took down one of the greatest players of any generation, Connie Hawkins, who never played a varsity game. As a freshmen at Iowa, his freshmen team scrimmaged against the varisty, which was #1 in the country, led by none other than Don Nelson (yes, that Don Nelson). The freshmen, led by Hawkins, beat the varsity.

By the time Hawkins got the the NBA, his best was behind him. He was still an all-star but basketball missed seeing perhaps the best player of all time at his best.
