A Feel Good Story

This isn't anything about St. John's or college hoops. This is about a group of kids, whom many of 'em I personally know (I, attended middle school with most of that particular team), who were able to overcome trials and tribulations (on and off the court) to bring home a state championship.

25 years ago, C.A. Johnson High School won the Class AAA (2nd largest classification in South Carolina) state basketball championship. Ironically, they won it again (they are Class A now) yesterday for the first time since 1989 (first time they've been back since '89).

It's a good read (click the first link).

By the way, the "John Salley" reference by Ron Morris was off. Two different players. One is from NYC, as many of y'all know, (not Baltimore) and several years older.

EDIT: It seems "The State" newspaper is charging a fee (.99 cents) with some of their links. If you were to 'Google' "Redemption Boys: C.A. Johnson," then just cache it. That should do the trick. A pretty, interesting read, as I stated above.

Someone let me know, if the link is fine now. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for sharing Dink. Tremendous sorry about overcoming adversity & the influence of one disciplinarian who cared about the kids and positively impacted their lives. Reminds me a bit of Mount Vernon High School in my area growing up, where good coaching leadership fostered success in life and hoops in like circumstances.

You're welcome, Paultz! I, appreciate this story, as I attended middle school with most of that particular team. I knew their backgrounds, and what some of 'em had to deal with. I see you can attest to this particular story.

Still occasionally converse with a few of 'em, as well.
