5 Minutes With Lou Carnesecca

Thanks for posting. The Man is just such a great human being. I couldn't help but smile when reading the article. The writer truly captured Coach Louie's essence. He makes everyone he meets with feel comfortable in his presence and like he's known you forever.
St. John's has been so fortunate to have this man as its Coach and Ambassador!

Absolutely! -- thanks for posting this.

Coach always made time for reporters, he'd say they had a job to do to make a living, just like he did. The essence of that Christian attitude has been with me since my days at SJU.

Echo all of your feelings expressed. Forget about his success on the court. I enjoy being in the same room with him on the rare occasion, because he is genunely an amazingly good person. I met him at a function a couple of years ago with my daughter, and it being January, explained to him that they shared the same birthday. He lit up and then took over the conversation with her, asking her questions that he truly seemed interested in hearing the answers. it's on occasions such as those that reaffirm to me what a treasure Coach has been to the university from the day he set foot on campus. He is truly the peacock who has never become a featherduster.

Quite honestly, I thought this was going to be another story about sweaters, nearly passing out at his first game and all the rest of the stories that we've heard. When the author misspelled Chris' last name, I thought this was going down hill.

But all was saved with that shot of the wallet. I knew the "peacock today, feather duster tomorrow"  saying from Coach.

But I had no idea about the piece of paper Lapchick gave him. Or that he still carries it in his wallet to this day.

Coach Lou is truly a humble person that LOVES St.Johns deeply.
at the 100yr symposium He & Dick Mcquire{RIP} signed autos & chatted with me.
I said remember when you used to close down alumni hall for private practices & I would be the last to leave the weight room lol he never had much of a voice left always screaming so mahoney & labobo ran practice mostly
I told him about how he showed up in his TransAm one night outside jpods looking for Matt Brust & jason Buchanan
asking me if Id seen them, well Im no rat so I deny knowledge even though they were inside drinking.lol
Then he ask if I can go check again winking, :silly: so i told both Redmen to get outside Coach wants you asap
I think that team won NIT for Lou that yr.
