Can somebody explain how there are 12 teams in the tourney with our 2 regional games vs William and Mary and Lehigh to start yet we are already penciled in for the semi-finals?

Organizers want to guarantee ticket sales because a few yrs ago I think it was Gardner Webb who upset someone and the Garden attendance took significant hit. So they fast track the 4 major teams to the Garden regardless of what happens prior.

Kentucky I believe was the team they beat. Badly too, if I remember correctly

An absurd way to run a tournament. What do you tell W&M or Lehigh if they beat us. Where is the connection between early round games and the final four?

Thanks for the explanation it seemed a bit bizarre that these teams are even in the event. And thanks ytown

I have a question about tickets. Looking to buy on stubhub and there are cheap tickets in the 100 level behind the hoops. Does anyone know whether any of the sections are designated for specific teams? I would rather not sit in a Arizona or other teams 'section' but if there is a STJ section or they are all just general then I am going to buy these cheap tickets.

This is for thursday, thanks.

I bought through the season ticket package (you could buy this for extra fees if you have season tickets). I'm in section 107 the first night, and 106 the second night (or somthing like that). Row 20-something. I got that by entering the code REDSTORM when purchasing on ticketmaster (although that offer has now expired). Supposdly, that code led to the "official St. John's section", so I'm guessing, if there is one, it's in the area that I purchased them.

Thanks. I typed in REDSTORM and it gave me tickets in 106 row 22 for $55 a ticket. When I do best available for the cheapest available I get tickets behind the hoop for 13.50 a ticket. While I might not be with SJU fans and might be behind the hoop, I cannot justify spending 40 dollars more to sit closer to center court (I am a grad student haha). I guess I will just go with the cheapest behind the hoop in the 100s, but I am confused on how the corner vs center court is that big of a discrepancy.

I also don't have season tickets since I don't know my schedule for next semester/I can't make it to CA ever, but I probably should have just got them anyway since I will go to every MSG game I can.

Bought my tickets last night for Thursday, me + 2 others (Cuse and SJU fan) pretty excited to see the team in person. I just wanted to know how the ticket distribution works for the tournament, and if people expect a big SJU turnout. I have a feeling lots of Zona fans will be in attendance. I am hopeful that last year's magical run, and a top recruiting classes first game in the Garden + no NBA brings out a HUGE pro SJU crowd and the Garden is rocking, especially for these kids. As someone in my early 20s, I remember being a little kid during the Artest, Barkley days when the Garden always rocked. I distinctly remember the tournament (don't know which) when we played Kansas and Kentucky back to back, and we won the Kentucky game first, and the Garden had Johnies fever early. I hope it is back there, I want to get chills with the Garden erupting for the Johnines lineups on Thursday. Lets prove We are NY's team and We Are St. John's!

Seems like a ridiculous way to run a tournament, but they earned their way into the semifinals anyway, good work.

Agree its ridiculous but it and others are structured that way to meet NCAA exmption rules, to lure teams with a guaranteed 4 games and to sell tickets with a guaranteed big(ger) name semi and finals.

It was the Omar Cook team with a pass to AG underneath to win it at the end against Kentucky and then Hinrich eating our lunch the next night.

That was back when it was just 4 teams with no preliminary games.

Interesting note that Lavin also coached in that CVC

I was 12 during that tournament, so it was right around the time where I really knew what was going on, and really can start to remember games like that. I didn't even realize it was the CVC, I just knew it was a preseason tourney at the Garden. Well hopefully these new Johnies can have a Garden debut like Omar Cook did. Hopefully they stay longer though.
