Was thinking guys, gals (on this great site which has given me many moments of wondrous reflection on SJU basketball)

Would I have accepted - say back in November 2014 - 21-9/10-7??? Not sure 'Says I to Myself' ( Long Island's own Walt Whitman in his Leaves of Grass, no not that kind :) )

Well,
W at Syracuse
Beating of Gtown
Close v. Gonzaga, Duke
Injuries
Short not deep roster
Ineligible big men
Little big horn
Injuries

Lambasting of the coaching staff (which by the way troubles Mr. Lavin et al. causing loss of sleep, anxiety, need for meds, drowsy side effects, resulting in coach speak and poor coaching cycle etc.)

And, seriously, ye the chosen in red storm land say.......
Would you have checked off on our season thus far?

all the best

I think the best recruitment tool is the play of this year's team and the TV exposure we received. I wish the local sports media were more attentive.

Sherm,, misprint 21 and 9, 10 and 7 going on 11 and 7
sure would sign for it, along with the excitement of selection Sunday and the discussion following.

To answer the question I didn't change expectations much after the disappointment of the KT and ADR situations. Besides being an optimist and somewhat unconditional fan I expect to win every game, well besides a few teams of the Norm era and the post Pittsburgh team.

That said the team hasn't won any games that have surprised me. And like all teams they've lost a few I expected them to win going in. No reason this team shouldn't be 24-6 with wins at SHU, Creighton and DePaul. Doesn't mean I'm disappointed. Almost every team in the country loses a couple they shouldn't have. It's a longish season.

The friend in my adversity I shall always cherish most. I can better trust those who helped to relieve the gloom of my dark hours than those who are so ready to enjoy with me the sunshine of my prosperity.

I have a deep bond with Grant who was faithful to his wife, painted portraits etc as an outlet, had an uncanny knack for personnel decisions ( recruiting?) ala Sherman & Sheridan, and was such a poetic soul - near his death from throat cancer he wrote:

I do not sleep though I doze a little...if up I am talked to and my efforts to answer cause pain. The fact is I think I am a verb instead if a personal pronoun. A verb is anything that signifies to be; to fo; to suffer. I signify all three.

I wonder if Kennedy, Clinton and others - whatever - could write thusly from the heart...my bias and respect for this man USG.
Thanks Paul.

Hall flat out out played us, and backed it up with a win vs. Nova. Can't figure that game as a coulda shoulda. Butler at home we were not ready to play.

they were playing great basketball and well before those two games I even called them as being one of the only teams in the Big East that could beat Nova. Delgado was playing like an AA senior not to mention getting calls and no-calls. I can't remember a team looking so good and melting down that far like that complete with the public airing of grievances; Sina fleeing in fear for his life and the Gibbs forearm to ArchiD's head. I thought they were going to be really good next season. I don't any more. They need to clean house and start fresh.

I'm convinced the Rysheed saga cost us at least two wins. If we had a committed Ryshyeed (or him at at all) for the Butler and Nova home games and the Creighton and Depaul away games, we'd have AT LEAST two more wins. We would have beaten Butler with an uncommitted but present Jordan.

All that is in the past, though.

the butler game for sure. But who knows. He seems to have bought in to the program so maybe that whole episode has turned him into a better player and maybe we gained a win or 2 because of his improved play.

I think it had more to do with your sweat pants and Ralph's reverse psychology. By the way...Ralph says we don't have a chance of winning in these tournaments.

.They are actually those wind resistant ones that I got a few years ago at the SJU bookstore. I actually like them a lot. Very comfortable

Maybe not worthy of a fashion icon but I think they look better than those sweatshirt things coach was wearing during games a while back :)

We are undefeated when I wear the entire ensemble I think and we had a couple of losses when I forgot to wear the sneakers or hat in my house during games

Then please do us all a favor and make yourself a check list of your entire ensemble and check it twice before every game. Thanks in advance

It's only weird if it doesn't work.

And if Harrison didn't get thrown off the team in his soph year we would have had a better record. What I don't understand is comments made by Len Elmore and others that we have two bad losses to DePaul and Creighton. Bad? Both teams have played tough on their home court.

They are considered bad losses because of their RPI. Creighton has a 127 RPI and DePaul has a 167 RPI. Whether we feel they play tough on their home court or not, losses to teams with RPI's over 100 and 150 are considered bad losses.

Don't agree about Harrison being worth a few more wins. Harrison was in meltdown mode, the team in a tailspin. Harrison was just out of control, and although the season was by all means dead upon his suspension, I don't think it would have mattered much.

Agree with your Elmore comments. His comments are a very superficial view. Creighton came to play despite having lost 9 in a row, and their place was packed as usual. DePaul also played well against us on their court. The game we'd like to have back is Butler at home, although the two mentioned by Elmore were winnable.
