Thanks JSJ
Perhaps someone should call his show while he is still there and try to get this question in - maybe just say "thank you for your donation to St. John's on behalf of your mother Marilyn which you first mentioned and promised in 2005"

Oh wait maybe he doesn't have sufficient money - maybe after our pending federal tax reduction he will fund the scholarship lol

I know this has come up again and again on here, but it's worth mentioning.

I don't have any idea why Francesa didn't fund the scholarship he mentioned at the President's dinner. I do know there was dissatisfaction on the part of the school about how poorly he prepared for the President's dinner, a black tie affair. The last one he emceed, which I was at, he showed up in as crumpled brown suit jack that looked like he wore all day during his radio show and ran over to the Waldorf. Perhaps he is completely at fault, perhaps the university dropped the ball on something or somehow offended him in process - I don't know, and I'm not sure anyone here does.

I do know we (all including me) often trash people we don't like. Coach Lavin immediately pledged $10,000 per year to SJU when he was hired here, but on here at least was excoriated for being so cheap based on his salary. I don't know what of if Chris Mullin donates, but he is treated differently. To that extent, though, it's not anyone's business how charitable a public person is. Maybe Francesa brought it on himself to make a public proclamation of his intent, and maybe he was put off when SJU replaced him with Bruce Beck, who didn't go here. Beck for his part has been a wonderful and gracious Emcee.

I will be there tonight. If anyone else is going, please let me know. It's a rubber chicken event, but on a Friday perhaps people will be less in a rush to clear out. It is a night where the university shines.

It is better not to make a promise than to make one and not keep it.

Great event last night at the NY Hilton.

Event raised $3.3 million, a record.

Spoke at length with Anton Goff - I love the guy. He is bright and passionate and honest. I felt I came away with a new friend. He has big plans to ignite the programs, especially bball.

Met Joe T. And his wife , and mentioned that I knew redmanmorth and he lit up and said what a great guy he is, and the just visited. He said he is waiting for redmanmorth to get him a player from Montreal.

Bobby G. Gave a strong and passionate speech about how st johns is transforming lives of students and was well armed with statistics to back it up. Spoke to an old friend on the board of trustees who said some of the great new administrators we have would never have come here but for the deep respect bobby g. Has in the educational community. Got a chance to soeak to Bobby after and he was warm and engaging.

Both bishops were there (barres and dimarzio) and Barres in particular went around to tables to greet the many he has come to know in his short time on LI. He is a gem of a person and brilliant leader who also played bball at Princeton.

I even met 2 nuns who I discovered were active in the Cursillo program in Brooklyn that Id been involved with most of my life. As large a community Sju is, it becomes much smaller in commonalities.

A person I sat next to at dinner said it perfectly - that nearly everyone who graduates from Sju comes from humble beginnings and for so many St. John's has given us a springboard for success

Great evening where Sju both shined and reminded us what a great community we belong to.
