Been a really long time since we can look at next years roster mostly set.
leaving after this year: Joel, dingle, Ledlum, Jenkins, Conway, Alleyne

nov 2024 Projected 11 so far:
pg Wilcher, lefty
sg Davis
sf Luis, Glover, Taylor, Dunlap, ayo
pf & ctr. Zuby, Maker, traore

i assume that Davis is 3rd pg, Luis & glover can play some “2”
also Taylor & Dunlap will play a little “4”.

but IF all return, I see our biggest remaining needs are a (combo) guard(VJ?) & one more 4/5

I’d move Lefty to SG/SF and not look back. He’s a shooter that can make some plays.

Cruz is the backup PG as it stands but I would be absolutely shocked if Pitino doesn’t land a monster transfer combo guard. I was sure it would be Mashburn Jr. but now I’m not sure he’d be good enough.

I see Ayo as a 4/3 for Pitino for the next two seasons. A defensive weapon that can cover 1-4 positions. Play him next to a pair of bigger perimeter guys out of Luis, Dunlap, and Taylor and you’ll be fine on the glass.

With hopefully* less than 4 spots to fill come end of season.... Rick and co can zero in on 2 Studs... probably a guard and a BIG.

Will be interesting to see, assume it will be created around Feb/March, a list of Immediately* eligible transfers

What no moving Lefty to PF? I don’t see him even as a SF at all but then again I don’t like to play kids 2-3 slots out of their positions 🤩

What is a SF really? There’s lead guards and true bigs, and everything else kind of blend together to fill the holes. I don’t think it’s at all hard to imagine lefty playing along side 2 smaller guards.

I think Pitino is evolving once again as a coach and it’s in this direction.

We’ve got as many 3’s as anyone and they’ve always been hybrids, leaning towards the 2 or 4…sometimes different directions on either side of the ball. Dunlap, for example, is a lean to the 2 on offense, and 4 on defense IMO.

Hopefully he can cover more ground than a lean-to

I pretty much agree with everything but I think Dunlap best bet on offense will be with other guards able to break down the defense. If he could ever be a legitimate defensive option at the 4, he could open up highways on offense with ability to pick and pop and drag bigs out.

Offensively, he works with any combination. You just want to make sure there is enough ball-handling and driving capability as you pointed out. You could run out 4 Dunlap clones with Dingle or an 2024 Wilcher and still be a problem.

Defensively, I can see three big wings 2-4 with a massive center like Khaman. You have to team rebound and switch like crazy 1-4. Let the center stay home in the lane. There is probably less flexibility with Zuby in at the 5.

Luis and Dunlap are two guys I see in all the interesting lineups next year. Luis can be the Andre Jackson type of player for us.

I see the writing on the wall with Pitino and the stretch 4, so I’m trying to be more open-minded. A guy like Prey makes that easy.

Dunlap definitely looks taller than I expected, and I think his frame looks like it lends itself to packing on lean muscle with the right strength and conditioning staff.

I actually thought Luis could play the 4 for us before thinking this about Dunlap.

One would be great, but if somehow both could man the 4, we'd really demolish teams on offense.
