Today's mock draft in the NY Post has Knicks taking PG Shariffe Cooper from Auburn at 19 and Usman Garuba forward from Spain at 21. Don't like those picks - would much prefer them taking Jared Butler from Baylor and either Isaiah Jackson from Kentucky or if they want to gamble Jalen Johnson from Duke.
There is speculation they may try to deal both picks to move up to get Chris Duarte from Oregon. Deep draft; I'd rather seeing them keep both picks but get them wanting Duarte who is ready to step right in on day one.
Should be interesting night for Knick fans.

I do like Shariffe Cooper.  Quick, very good handles and truly elite floor vision.  Shooting needs improvement.  If he were taller, he would go higher.   I have seen him listed at 6'1", but he looks more like 5'11".

Jared Butler can just play, I’d prefer him too.

I would be a bit surprised to see the Knicks use both first round picks tonight
Thibs is known not to be a big fan of playing a lot of rookies
I could see them packaging the two picks to move up in the draft to get one guy
Or use the two picks (perhaps with other assets) to get a really good current NBA player

I think the Warriors would definitely be up for dealing from the No. 7 position if the Knicks are serious about moving up.

Whatever they decide to do.. the needs are obvious. They need a legit ball handler and they need shooting.

Understood but it appears he will drop due to the condition. Hopefully someone preferably the Knicks gets a bargain.

Looks like Julian made the right choice. Julian undrefted this far and Sandro fell to 54.

Sandro probably wishes he remained undrafted.

Instead of picking and choosing the best fit for him (which would happen if he didn't get drafted), he now goes to Milwaukee (Indiana traded him there), where he'll be stuck behind Giannis.  He's going to get no playing time there.

It's always better to get drafted than to go undrafted.  Most teams do sign their draft picks, even their late 2nd rounders.  If you go undrafted you pretty much go to competing for a 2 way contract or competing for spot on summer league team/training camp and most of those guys usually don't end up on that final 15 man roster and that's where you want to be.

Yea, I'm still unsure why Justin elected to stay in the draft, his stock dropped dramatically during the combine/workouts.  He's young for his class, so there was no rush for him to leave. This was arguably the strongest draft class since 1996, so coming back would have helped his stock.  If he would have joined Julian here, they would have got some good endorsement deals as well as a ton of national attention.  Now, it's going to be an uphill battle for him to make an NBA roster, he'll probably be offered a 2-way contract, but most guys on those 2 way contracts end up overseas after a year or 2, it's very few that have turned being a 2-way contract player into a rotational player in the league.

Edit:  As expected Justin gets a 2-way contract.

Really like the Knicks Miles McBride pick at #36. He will fit right into Thibs hounding defense and became a very solid 3 point shooter as a soph. More of a combo than pure point guard but a keeper for sure. So-so about the rest of their draft.
Hopefully they can get another shooter and a pure point guard in free agency (or trade) starting Monday.

IMO the problem for Justin is that he was a tweener and was always going to be a tweener.  There wasn't really anything he could do in returning to college that would have appreciably raised his NBA draft stock.  So if he wanted to play professional ball he might as well stay in the draft, see where the chips fall, and then go earn a living in Europe or the G league or whatever.  Bottom line is he had gotten all he was going to get out of college.

Julian is another story.  He could work his way into NBA conversation as a big guard/small forward/swingman for 3 and D but he has to work on his defensive quickness and assertiveness at taking his man to the rim.  Those are things he can work on at SJU and put himself in a better position next year.  Justin was more or less a finished product for evaluation purposes; Julian is not.  He made a smart decision IMO.
