2018 JUCO Recruits

For whatever reason Matt A does not appear to recruit Juco players. Ahmed was an exception & staff knew him from his JFK in Bronx days.

That is another reason we could benefit from an additional recruiter & cover all bases. I respect Matt’s results for most part, but having one guy dictate recruiting strategy and targets seems imprudent.

+1

Tallahassee has a lot of players on that list. If I recall correctly that is where Hatten did JUCO. But at this point the staff might be afraid to touch anything from Florida.

Al least those wearing a dress & getting hands stuck in cash registers

Matt is good at recruiting transfers because he is a used car salesman. I'm not sure he is good at establishing relationships with high school kids without the support of Mullin. Slice was supposed to be that guy.

I have nothing against Mitch and St. Jean. They seem like a good guys who relate to the players and have been around the game. That said, you would ideally want more out of the two assistant positions they occupy (i.e. one experienced coach, and one recruiter).

Forget him. I want one of these two guys in my Easter basket!
(Ivan Aurrecoechea)
(Yuat Alok)

Yuat recently committed to TCU but Ivan is still available. Has some nifty moves. One negative is that he went to same high school in Spain as Yankuba.

Admittedly not close to JUCO landscape. But, seems like JUCO route has been overtaken by prep school option. And, as a result, not as many top players in this pool.

Ahmed is a case in point. Was JUCO player of the year. He has been good for us. But, not player of the year good.

It is a bit strange MJD
Have we not had our share of excellent JUCOs (I believe, Harvey and Michael Porter, Walter Berry, Billy Goodwin, Marcus Hatten, others - or were some of these transfers?)
beyond HS and transfers and foreign players, JUCO is such a potentially rich source of players for the Red Storm.
Strange. Strange too that we still do not have that additional recruiter.
May be someone from the inside can enlighten us...and hint at when we might actually have another coach to handle this area.
Thanks!

Would be very happy if we could get a similar caliber JUCO player. Not every player has to be like Ponds. Gotta keep our core and add a couple of quality pieces and we should be in very good shape next year. That said, we will see how it pans out. Player retention and recruiting is a difficult game these days. Regarding the additional recruiter. We need Mullin to recruit also. He has gravitus. Nice to see Mullin visiting Brown.

All that you mentioned were transfers with Goodwin, Berry, Harvey and Porter all coming from San Jancinto. Others with varying degrees of success ) include, Bootsy Thornton, Avery Patterson, Dwight Hardy, Mitchell Forster, Marco Baugault, Orlando Sanchez, Menefield, Darrell Aikens, Barry Milhaven, Shariff Fordham, Billy Paultz, Darien Williams, Nurideen Lindsey and Grady Reynolds.

If you look at it, we haven't had a whole lot of success with Jucos lately.
