What a breath of fresh air.

Thanks CTStorm. Funny enough I just went through and averaged the attendance figures myself today. I’m blown away by the support our fans have shown this team—even in Miami we rolled deep. Very impressive!

In Lavin's first year, the excitement built slowly. Certainly he had taken over a program left for dead, and there was an immediately bump in CA attendance, but it wasn't really until the Pitt game or thereabouts that the interest grew.

This season the interest was there almost immediately, largely due to the roster, and partially due to the Mullin factor in terms of our fan based attending games.

I am going to give a lot of the credit for the surge in attendance to Shamorie Ponds. His play in the Duke and Villanova games last year and his preseason accolades got St. John’s in the consciousness of many local basketball fans. This was then bolstered by the addition of Heron, the undefeated start(winning is winning), the AP ranking and certainly Mullin’s name which enhanced our local coverage.

Shamorie will likely leave St. John’s as one of two players to be in our all time top six in assists, steals and points. The other being his coach. Quite an accomplishment in three seasons. Now let’s hope he can play great this final stretch and we can get that first NCAA win in 19 seasons.

Goes to show what a sleeping giant SJU is if the right people build a winner here. Would be a consistent Garden sellout with a consistent winner. This attendance jump should be an eye opener with respect to our potential.

and yet some of our fans on both boards claim our fans suck. Now we have a love fest. Let's keep winning get good recruits and hopefully enjoy the return of St. John's to national prominence. :) :) :) :) :)

Haha.... based on location and time was only able to get to 3 reg season games this year.

Sacred Heart @ CA: $35
Seton Hall @ Prudential & Duke @ Cameron : $400 combined

would have traded it all to pay that same amount for just one of the big wins at MSG !!!!!

Wonder the % of giveways or last minute dumps to brokers.[/quote] thats some of it we know for sure

Mike Cragg is the most important recruit which St. John's has signed in several decades.

If we were periniall top 25 , we could be selling out.

Yes, the school was clearly pushing tickets out there which is smart. But, keep in mind, the attendance figures represent number of people through the turnstiles.

Thanks but I always thought it was tickets "sold" since the sellouts get announced before games, not at the gate counts. There are almost always some empty seats.

Either way, the more the better if they are revenue generating to levels needed and not too many giveaways.

I believe it goes by tickets sold, as I highly doubt all 20,000 people make it to MSG when they announce a sell out.

Been attending since Mullin era and must say the atmosphere at both arenas has been super & enjoyable. Winning is right tonic.

Side bar comment, as many have said, I would like to see SJU take the time to recognize presence of past players at games as often as possible. Nova btw, does excellent job in this regard and also utilizes social media equally well to do so.
