What do you guys think? I wonder if they factored in Sanzhez in this analysis.

On the surface they have the Amir news which is recent.
But then again they don't have Orlando as a newcomer?

So who knows.

.include
Very unimpressed where we are on the list This is the best they think of us If they did not include Sanchez They did not take due
diligence in preparing it
We need .something big to give us a shot in the arm . Like Rasheed giving us a verbal

Also, they don't factor in the changes at UCLA and New Mexico even though they preceded the Amir news.

I think we will be better than 45 with Sanchez. If Jordan commits I could see us in the top 25 by the end of the year. The best programs are bringing in 2 top 50 kids in every year. That's where St. John's needs to be consistantly.

I would have hoped for a better pre season ranking in year 4 of the Lavin regime, but it is what it is. The article also assumes that DLo will be back in top form which is also a bit up in the air at this point. To see Nova, who was a pretty young team as well, be ranked so high is discouraging to me. Let's hope Sanchez lives up to his billing and DLo has a positive attitude change that will prove this ranking too low.

It is just a ranking, but it interesting to see the perception of how we will be. I think we are closer to a top 25 program then a top 50 program if harrison returns. That being said, if we don't come out strong early next year, it becomes more difficult to climb in the rankings. I really hope the new conference has a VERY strong out of conference record next year. This goes along way to the conference and St John's becoming more and more relevant.

I think having Harvard above us in year 4 is very disturbing. To have a junior and senior laden team ranked this low tells us the our player's resumes are filled with guys with poor stats from shooting to free throws to assists----this team does not seem to impress the odds makers. I think we also are being penalized for coaching. The Lavin mystique seems to have ended in year two when the recruits started getting scared away by his cancer diagnosis and continued into this year with average recruiting results. Other than re-signing Jakarr Sampson and signing Obekpa very late, year three recruiting almost turned into a bust. The ineligibility of recruits, player transfers and the low rankings of even our 2014 recruiting targets does not bode well for Lavin or the program.
The days of "if Lavin wants a recruit, he gets him" seem over. He and his assistants have to fight and work overtime now just to get in the door. Like Norm Roberts they are losing every major NY area target and are not on the radar of the top 50 recruits needed to keep the fan base interested in a pro town like NYC.
Every loss of a player, even an Amir Garret, has to be compensated with the signing of a better player.
Let's see who Lavin signs.

I cant stand the content of this post but with great regret I must state that I have to agree with it.
If we want this team to get where it should be and where we want it to be the staff must start working overtime. We cannot affod to strike out on recruiting this class or the next. We need to keep bringing in top talent as right now the player development is just not there.

Think we should be higher. { If DLO returns or we get Jorden] . Nice to see 2 teams from the new BE in the top 10.

It is disturbing to see what a few BB pundits have to say but, it isn't really surprising. Let's be sure here, this group of players, with or without Harrison, hasn't lived up to their press clippings from HS.. Exception being Sampson who does need another year..

It's also disappointing because it means Lavin hasn't moved the team forward enough. These guys were heralded recruits and we've seen several are overrated. Greene, Pointer, Harrison even, hasn;t lived up to his Top 25 performance. Garrett was overrated too. Greene is a 6th or 7th man, Pointer has offensive limitations and has a short fuse but, plays hard.. Branch, the jury is still out on but, he's no Erick Barkley or Boo Harvey. Maybe not even Jason Buchanan.

Sure there were the no shows, Pelle.. The 1 semester transfer Lindsay, Polee and Garrett left the program. Stith left last year. All these personnel moves hurt us. Harkless loss most of all. We haven't recovered.

What it all adds up to is, in year 4 we are considered a top 50 barely, team that might fall into the 2nd tier of the new BE conference.. G'town, Marquette, Villanova, all appear superior in talent and are ranked higher. Butler is also, likely better than we will be. Providence could be a sleeper and surprise.

So, where does that leave us in the new BE? Maybe 4th or 5th place on paper. Maybe worse.

And, we don't have any top recruits coming in yet. If we don't get Jordan, we'll fall behind others talent wise.

Plus, is Lavin suddenly going to turn into Rick Pitino or John Thompson3 or Buzz Williams? Doubtful he will install any new offense or defensive schemes. We've got a team of poor shooters, will they suddenly improve?

Lavin led us to believe that by this time 4 years in, SJU would be a league title contender in the BE, OLD OR NEW .

It isn't happening..Lavin , despite initial hoopla and acclaim for his recruiting, has fallen short of the expectations he established for himself.. The youth of the team propaganda can only be carried so far and , Steve has reached his limit on that.. Time to step up and produce winning Basketball in year 4. Otherwise, he needs to be held accountable for the team's record and competitiveness.

Many posters here, seem to be enthusiastic about the team and that is commendable but, the reality is our team hasn't developed to the level expected and playing what if, with Sanchez or GG, will raise us to a title contending status. It won't, unless Sanchez is the second coming of Bill Walton.

Lavin has been given a pass for his 3 years but, not anymore..His Coaching performance needs to improve substantially or, else we will be another school to lament, like UCLA, his below par Coaching ability.

Oh goodie. Another thread where posters can complain like petulant children.

People are going after Lavin because of predictions regarding next year's rankings, which are out even before this year's final four.

This place is nuts.

Not the place - just many of the posters.

VCU is also rated high. IMO they also should be part of the new BE, Plus when the BE expands it would be nice to have another eastern team.

You are correct sir. That is what I tried to say anyway. Thanks for clearing up my point. ;)

It's a good thing (for Pukon and Puke fans) that Calhoun and Coach K were not run out of town after just three seasons.
