2012 NIKE Peach Jam

Well, well, well.... One day down, and three more to go. I'll start with one of our main targets in Chris McCullough.

McCullough looks to be between 6'9" or 6'10." Long arms and broad shoulders. He possesses a nice, smooth jumper (with some touch), while being rather active. I tallied about 6 blocked shots in Team Scan's win today versus Meanstreets. The thing I also liked about his blocked shots were he kept the ball in play. He still has trouble consistently finishing through contact, but that is something that can come with more strength. I'll most definitely continue to keep my eyes on McCullough throughout the Peach Jam. Hopefully, we can reel him in in '14.

I also had a chance to watch a good bit of Rondae Jefferson today. He plays the role of a point forward. He is another lengthy kid who is plenty active. He uses his quickness, ballhandling (although, he's left-hand dominant) and solid passing skills to get things done. I figured Jaren Sina would be bringing the ball up for Team Final, but more times than not it was Jefferson doing the initiating. He threw a handful of deft passes, but his teammates didn't seem ready for the ball (a couple of his passes had some heat on it). Too bad he's already trimmed down his list.

I had a chance to watch the "bull" from the state of Texas a year ago, and he didn't disappoint me then nor did he disappoint me today. I'm talking about Julius Randle. Occasionally, he gets out of control, but that is about the only complaint I can say at the moment. We're talking about a 6'9" 240-245 lbs kid who can handle the ball; initiate the offense; has a soft touch (also will occasionally drop a 3); boards; muscles the opposition in the paint; and will dunk on you in heartbeat. The kid is a freakin' monster! He brings it!

I only watched a handful of possessions in the CIA Bounce/BABC game. But, there was one particular play that "wowed" folks.... A spin move by Andrew Wiggins. I'm more than sure y'all will get a chance to see it on video.

It also seems that we've placed importance on Jerrell Martin, Jermaine Lawrence and Rysheed Jordan. Hopefully, we're able to land one or two of these prospects. It'll certainly be a major recruiting haul. We're also putting plenty of focus, this summer, on the '14 and '15 classes.

Finally, Cincy fans need to get their facts straight when spewing madness, in reference to Obekpa. Like I've always known that is was all sour grapes. They also need to sweep around their own front door before sweeping around ours. ;)

I'll be back at it on tomorrow, folks!

Nice Info Thanks

No problem, Paultzman! I've made it back from the Peach Jam, folks! I enjoyed myself, as usual, but it's always a bit better when we have a few targets participating. I wouldn't doubt some of the underclassmen who were playing may pop up on our radar at a later time.

There were a coulple of kids on Mokan Elite's team who caught my eye. Semi Ojeleye and Lourawls (yes, that is his first name) Nairn. I was told Ojeleye were already attracting high-majors, but his lists probably will grow after the past few days. I'm also sure the same will happen for Nairn. Nairn is a speedy, strong PG who seems to slither or uses his speed to get into the lane. He can also finish through contact.

I also had the chance to watch a good bit of the 16 & under Houston Hoops squad (they played Team Scan on Friday). Melvin Swift and Tony Upchurch were the kids who caught my eye. I had already known Swift was a top 50-60 player in the '14 class, but I guess it's always different when you see it in action. Upchurch is making a name for himself, on the gridiron, as a wide receiver. But, he may have a chance (at least, on the collegiate level) as a basketball player. I don't recall seeing him miss a trey versus Team Scan, and he hit his one or two in the brief period I watched him on last night. A deadeye shooter.

I also forgot to mention Mickey Mitchell. I only got the chance to see him play on Thursday, but he is a baller! He is the consumate point forward. He was wowing the crowd with terrific passes. Whether, it was a nice bounce pass; a behind-the-back pass; or laser, no-look passes. I wished I had the opportunity to catch him play another time or two.

I'm sure many of you know Team Scan was bounced last night. McCullough didn't play too well, as his game just seemed off. He also missed a handful of tip-in's. I really like his game, but he just need to become more consistent with his shot and being able to finish.

Cheick Diallo oozes potential. He's a kid who'll hit a nice 5-foot bank shot, but will miss an easy dunk on the next possession. He's a kid who'll fumble a nice pass for an easy deuce, but will hustle back on defense and block a potential deuce by the opposition. That about summed up Diallo during the times I watched him over the past few days. He's certainly worth keeping an eye on. We were also paying close attention to Team Scan's 15 & under squad. They were also participating in North Augusta at the Nike Elite.

Lastly, I'm looking for some good things in the '14 and '15 classes, respectively. There are some good kids in both classes, and things seems to be lining up well for us. I'm also starting to get a good feeling about Jerell Martin. I have a pretty good hunch we're gonna end up in his top 5 once he trims down his list again, this summer.

Another Peach Jam has come and gone. Until next year....
