To all the naysayers, I think you got your answer last night. Our coaches can coach and Branch has plenty of up side.
Who would have thought "The Swatter" would have only logged 10 minutes?

Who thought a player could play 13 minutes and foul out? Questions all around.

BUT, they may have been the most productive 13 minutes of his career! He did a little of everything and those fouls were caused by an aggressive defense that he should bring to every game. Playing a tight man-to-man also was a factor.

Lavin's got a unique problem this season. He has at least 10 guys who are arguably good enough to play meaningful minutes. His task is to figure out which guys play more minutes during which games. Up until yesterday, I don't think he did a good enough job of that during BE play. Previously, he seemed to be sticking to a similar rotation each game. Yesterday he realized he couldn't play Obekpa big time minutes because of ND's outside shooting capabilities. He also realized that the team would benefit more from Christian Jones than someone like Balamou.

Nice job by the staff last night with the rotation. We'll need to see more of that to continue success in the BE.

I agree. But the last foul was silly on that break. He should have just let him get the basket and move on to the next play. He's going to need to be smarter. But he is definitely a difference maker for this team on the defensive end. He brings much needed defensive intensity and energy to the unit. Nice job Pointer, keep up the good work.

He played great, last few games he has been very good-- just a strange box score- 13 mins 5 fouls.

really like the effort last night, and that is one positive about being deep, we can Afford to be aggressive. 5 fouls in 13 mins might be excessive, but rather him be aggressive than allow them to play uncontested.

very intersting lineup changes as well last night- Chris, he is a Great shot blocker, Good defender, Decent rebounder, and N/A Offensively. Think Lavin and co are recognizing this. We need more points than the other team to win the game and our other players give a bit more offensively right now. When we need a stop- Chris plays, as was evident with the substitution last night and his block off the ND kids head in the final minute.

One other change I think we might see is a re-emergence of Cjones. I question his aggressiveness and bball IQ at times, but he can score... Wouldn't mind him taking some of Felix's minutes. I like Felix and think he will develop into a possible Postell his seniorr yr, but right now- he doesn't look to dribble, drive or shoot. When he is passed the ball, that ball almost immediately comes back to the person who gave it to him. He is a work in progress and will get better when his confidence builds.

And many of those fouls are 30 feet or more from the basket

I believe that Christian Jones can contribute right now
Don't have the same feelings about Balamou or Bourgault
They are projects that need more work "in the lab" before they see the floor IMO

Chris needs to play tougher D. Last night he tended to let his man get position, and back him down. He looks to recover by going for the block. He also doesn't rotate quickly enough on switches. I think that's the reason he only saw 10 minutes, although that last play block off the guys head out of bouds was, well out of bounds.

BTW, the exact same thing can be said of Jones, except he doesn't try for blocks.

He is famous for reaching at half court.

I agree with the fact that Chris may rest on his laurels and figure he can always recover for a block. I think the wieght room and a solid diet will add needed beef for the years to come. In regards to him being out of position...that will come with more in-game experience and practice. It seemed as though the open shots underneath came in the beginning of the game when he was on the bench. Jones physically looks like he could be that garbage type player we need (ala dejuan blair in a few years), but still waiting to see him make his presence felt down low. With more minutes- his confidence will grow. Hoping Lav keeps him in the rotation.

I thought Dom was moving purposefully and was actually pulling the other kids along. He moves well enough to lose the need to foul. I think we were in pretty good shape when he went out. With hard work he can become the glue.

Good things generally seem to happen when Dom is on the court
He's a "stat sheet filler" - contributes something in every area - points, rebounds, steals, assists, blocks, etc.
That's why the silly fouls that he commits annoy me
We need him on the court as much as possible
