1987 Lapchick Championship vs. LMU

In the long, not so storied history of this tournament, this was probably the most exciting game we ever played in it. It was certainly the best team we ever played against in it. I especially enjoyed Bob Sheppard announcing the lineups. Turn your volume up though.

This youtube user seems to be a Michael Porter fan (maybe it's Porter himself, I don't know). He has highlights from all throughout his career (High School and SJU). The other games he has up there, at this point, are losses, so I won't share those, but if he posts other wins, they will be on here.

That LMU team averaged something like 110ppg for the season with a couple of games topping 140. St. John's was the polar opposite.

I remember that game, LMU was the epitome of run and gun offfense and ole defense, but boy was it fun. At one point in the second half Louie yelled out to Boo, "Slow it down, slow it down". Boo responded, "But coach i am", and the pace continued at break-neck speed. A little while later Louie turned to Mahoney with a look of disbelief and Mahoney just shrugged.
..

I have one more St John's win from the 87-88 season yet to post on that YouTube channel. It's vs Georgetown at MSG. I have a slew of vhs tapes that I'm converting that span two decades. Will post to the same you tube channel as I convert them.

Meanwhile, for those that remember Mike Porter =272s

...and thanks for sharing the links, SJU61982. Been quite busy

Thank you for posting these. As many SJU victories that we can get on Youtube, the better, IMO Going to share UCLA now, in honor of tomorrow.

This is from just before I became a serious fan, so these mean a lot to me.

Cool. A forum member was kind enough to loan his collection of St John's games to me. They're on VHS tape and in conversion process. Possibly looking to collaborate with a website specialist who could build a site such as the UConn website library

Well, that UCONN site is great. If we could get a site half that good, I'd be thrilled.

It's hard for younger people like me to believe, but we only missed the NCAA tournament once between 1982 and 1993 (winning the NIT in that odd year), so there are many wins from that era to choose from. We also had very good teams in 1999 and 2000, as well. Heck, I was talking with some kid before the Sacred Heart game, who remembered the 2015 NCAA tournament, but was too young to remember even Lavin's first year, and that team had some great, great victories.

Of course, whatever you can share with us will be much appreciated.

I was hoping that particular game at MSG versus Georgetown from the '87-'88 season was posted on there. I remember watching that game with my oldest brother (who was a huge, Hoyas fan at that time). We swept 'em that particular season, as we beat 'em up in Landover earlier in the conference season.

I hope you post the win at MSG, ASAP.

I should have that Georgetown game up by tomorrow. The quality isn't that great and it's a partial recording. It's the complete first half, but only the last two minutes of the second half. I did however run across a Hoya forum member who has both games from that year on tape.. hope to acquire those

I will preview the remaining tapes I have and filter out Wins, complete game and quality. And thanks for the upload link, Paul

Man, we would be killing Lou if the board was around in 87.

Two years removed from the program's highest high, and we have Marco Baldi and Matt Brust as starters with 1st year Jayson Williams as the only decent sub.

And then our promising backcourt gets wiped out at the end of the season with Porter and Boo academically ineligible.

This board would be lit up like a Christmas tree.

I noticed around the 25:11 mark on the our game versus Georgetown, you'll see Adrian Autry and Malik Sealy (Sealy was clowning around) getting airtime in the stands.

I remember that game and seeing that and hoping we were going to get both of those guys and maybe even their teammate the forward that went to N. Carolina.
