I took my Dad to a Mets game this year, he is almost 80, and sure enough he came out in a jacket and tie. I thought it was so bizarre. Church, airplanes, and baseball games always wore jack and tie. I'll take that over the pants around the ankles which makes me mental.

I'm your dad's age. Your post is interesting in that to Sunday Giant game my dad would be wearing his going to mass suit.I would have been to the kid's mass so I had opportunity to get casual.( late 1940s early 1950s )

Now as to airplanes every one dress up could it have been the food was so good. Yes in the late 1950s and early 1960s airline food was great!
