16-17 Non Conference Schedule

Only team on regular season schedule not previously reported is Cal State Northridge.

Like most of our home opponents, they were not good last year. 10-20 overall, 5-11 in the Big West. They will, however, be returning their top 4 scorers from last season.

Their head coach is two time NBA all star Reggie Theus, formally of the Bulls and Nets (and other NBA teams). His son, Reggie Jr., will be on the team too this year, after transferring from South Carolina (where he didn't play much).

A good combination of lower level D-1 and Power 5 conference teams
A reasonable schedule for a team in transition to prepare us for conference play
I would be very happy with a 9-4 record with this schedule

Apparently, nobody noticed the big misprint.

The dates for Atlantis are written as Wednesday November 23, Tuesday November 24, and Wednesday November 25. Of course, it's Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.

Also, Tulane still has our game listed as being on Saturday, December 3, where as we have it the night before. Obviously, one is right, and one is wrong, so be on the lookout for the date to change on one of those teams' official schedules.

Another bang up job by the St. John's Athletic Department

We can take dual credit. ; ) Kind of interesting how the author is predicting us to blowout some of the so called "cupcakes" on the schedule. Not saying we shouldn't win some of those games but we can't afford to take any opponent for granted after last year. I do like what he said about the Fordham game, something tells me the crowd may be a bit amped up for that one.

It would be awesome to score 100 on some of these teams and win by 40+, but it seems like our "blowouts" of "cupcakes" are usually something like 75-58.

already looking at flights for that tulane game. That will be a fun trip

Didn't like the right up on Binghamton. They have a Bucknell transfer, a senior guard returning that was out all last year. A healthy Thomas Bruce who is a beast. Willie Rodriguez who is a very good player and who I believe Lavin had some interest in, and a freshman point guard from Findlay Prep that made six three pointers in the Dick's Classic at the Garden. Pretty sure they keep it close.

Maybe we should have scheduled SUNY New Paltz instead of the Big Bad Bears

Big Bad Bearcats.

St. John's opted for just one exhibition game this year to have a closed scrimmage. It will be against Rhode Island, per source. #sjubb

I think this should be the way to go in the future.

Those closed scrimmages provide better competition. You'll probably have a better idea of where your team stands after that, then you would (likely) routing a D2 team. Plus, I understand you can tell the other team during these scrimmages something like "play 2-3 zone this possession, we're unsure how we perform against it." So, you can work on just about anything you want to.

That being said, it's good to have one formal exhibition against a D2, if only to get the team out on the court once in front of a crowd, with no pressure on them. Plus, it simulates the game experience.

I think St Thomas Aquinas gave us a pretty good idea of how we were going to be last year.
