12th anniversary today of Norm Roberts' firing.  Not much of a turnaround since.

Two one and done NCAA Tournaments (one where we played in the first four) giving us false hope along with a couple of good players from Brooklyn, one from Texas and one from Queens whose made a career in the NBA is about the best we can say.  Some other good player who had their own special talents but nothing resulting much success on the court let alone a sustainable winning program.

"march 11, 2010" can be "norm roberts day," much like "november 13th" is odd couple day.

Wow. Hard to believe it's been 12 years since the Norma era. Seems like only yesterday. Then again, I'm still celebrating the 1985 run...

It's crazy how time flies. We have been in three NCAA tournaments since Norm. Lavin's first year we lost to Gonzaga. The let's get high loss to San Diego State and the Mullin play in game loss to ASU.

We can all celebrate next Wednesday, the 22nd Anniversary of our last NCAA tournament win against Northern Arizona in 2000 or better yet celebrate it on Thursday(St. Patrick's Day)!

Yet we are too good for the NIT./media/kunena/emoticons/blink.png

Literally expressly celebrating the day of norm's firing seems a bit whatever to me. He is a decent man who did his best under horrid circumstances.

Norm did bring in the Burrell Team Talent that Lavin / Dunlap got into the NCAA tourney the next year .    I remember when Lavin was announced as the new Coach . I was so excited I told my Son that St John’s was going to win a NCAA Title with Steve as Coach . I thought he was going to work Miracles .

I’m trying to think of what I did the day Norm finally got fired. Definitely involved celebratory alcohol. Crazy thing is Lavins first year was so awesome and he recruited insanely when he got hired that I got over Norm quickly. Whereas Jarvis it took me a real long time

Obviously Norm didn't work out and it was clearly time to move in a different direction.  However, I do respect him and thank him for bringing some all-time favorites to St. John's.
