I’m not sure if anyone could have predicted the impact Julian was able to have as a freshmen. No one was expecting him to be close to a double digit scorer and a consistent starter his fist year. And then as a sophomore, perhaps even more surprising, Julian returned as the BE’s leading scorer. I don’t think most thought he would be St. John’s leading scorer before the season began.

My point is that there was really no reason to expect either of these to happen but Julian somehow surprised us twice.

What is something that might not be likely to happen but if it did could really change the potential for the upcoming season? Could Soriano be ready for BE play from day one and be a top 5 big in the league? Could posh take a huge leap as a soph after already exceeding expectations like Julian did? Does Julian have a 3rd jump in him? Do any of the other transfers have the ability to be a 2nd team all conference player?

If I were to guess I could see Wusu taking the next step and becoming a sure fire BE starter. He’s got the experience in CMA system and he’ll never be overmatched physically. If his 3pt shot improves to even average (33-35%) he’ll be hard to keep off the floor IMO.

Hey mods, don’t want to insult Julian with the typo but  “Champagnie” got changed in the title.

If someone could change it, thanks!

While it does seem to be rare for an upper class transfer to make a big leap forward, especially when coming from a lower level conference, I do think that all the transfers will be solid contributors. My hope is that our 3 returning players make a leap forward(Wusu may have the most upside), and our freshman all contribute to varying degrees. In all likelihood, by league play we'll have an 8-9 man rotation, which means a few of the kids won't see significant minutes. That's usually how it goes. We'll see.

Maybe title of thread should be "The Champagnie Pop"./media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png  He has made a marvelous transition from a HS player who was considering prep school for 2019/20 year to a frosh in BE starting 26 games and averaging 25+ minutes/game.  I don't think anyone would have imagined this when he signed with us.  The stars aligned right and Julian rose to the challenge.  His style of play fit very well with CMA's, we had no center other than Roberts, Mustafa got injured, and he had something to prove--he was finally out of his brother's shadow.  Hope he continues to "Pop" as he had the NBA experience in pre draft process and knows what he has to work on. PS--glad he won't have to play the 5 and that he'll get a few less minutes and increase his productivity/minute

It’s not just these past two games. A lot of our best play has come with him on the court, now the numbers are starting to come along. Posh was always eager to get off the ball throughout the game last year. Wusu allows him to do that and lets posh go get his from time to time.

I thought the thread was going to be about a first half layup by Julian.   He was open under the basket, but as a defender quickly rushed at him he went up as to fire a pass to Mathis I believe, who was wide open in the corner.   With the same form as a pass, maybe a no look, he laid it in as the defender froze to block the pass.

After last night Ill go with Nyiwe.  If he can harness that athleticism and become a shot altering, rebounding force in the middle, that changes the total dynamic of the team.

That was sort of a Josh Roberts game for Nyiwe.  With his size and athleticism, Fordham had no one to counter.   He will shine against subpar competition at times, so in meaningful games will be mostly used as in certain situations or when foul trouble dictates.

He seems more able to defend on the perimeter and a better passer then roberts.  Roberts was probably a little better offensively.

Josh Roberta being a better offensive player than anybody is a scary thought.  Well, Nywie is clearly a better three point shooter then Josh!  In all seriousness, I agree with your take.  I think Josh may be a bit better shot blocker but agree that Nywie appears effective at defending the perimeter.

Obvious candidate:  Wusu
Second most-obvious candidate:  Pinzon
LMF Sentimental choice:  Stanley
Dark horse candidate:  Nyiwe

Based on what I thought he was it's already Nyiwe for me - even if he never plays another minute.
