I just found a Copy of Sports Illustrated , March 18,2013 issue .Article by Alexander Wolff titles the Last Dance of the Big East .There is a 2 page photo of the 1986 BE Redmen Win over Syracuse with Walter Berry’s block on Pearl Washington . Mark Jackson and Marci Baldi prominent in the photo . And ,Willie Glass and Ron Rowan . Interesting that Wolff virtually guaranteed that the BE Conference was Dead !” The Big East died in a cascade of broken promises , unreturned phone calls ,and simple avarice, as schools that also played big time football chased the TV and Bowl money that sport made possible .” Wolff wrote the defection of Syracuse , Pitt,Uconn, and Notre Dame was the doom of the Conference. He said little about earlier defections of BC , Miami, Va Tech , WVa . Rutgers got no mention at all . Wolff believed the biggest defection was Syracuse . Seconded by Billy Raftery who said , “ Syracuse leaving was the one school that pierced everybody .” Despite Boeheim disagreeing with his schools decision . Jimmy said , “ Where would you rather go for a Tournament for 5 Days ?” Let’s see Greensboro or New York City and Madison Square Garden?” Personally , I think the BE has actually raised the Bar on becoming arguably the best B.B. Conference in America . And , Xavier , Marquette , Creighton , Butler have not caused the League to miss a beat . I am still disappointed that Notre Dame took the ACC Football money and abandoned the BE but, they have to live with a very bad decision on their part . Too bad ! They could have been part of the new BE but, choose not to. I have heard rumors they strongly regret abandoning their Catholic Brethern . Especially among Alumni . But, the Irish rarely ever admit a wrong . Maybe thinking they are as perfect as they think they are ? Anyway , check it out Sports Illustrated , March 18, 2013 .
