Absolutely a world where you get both.Weren’t they recruiting Jackson and Lee at the same time and didn’t they take their visits within that same weekend (mega haul weekend)? Just wondering if it was going to be one or the other or was there a world we could have got both.
Any poll that had them ranked ahead of us in the preseason made me furious. Then I watched them against BYU the other night I was like "Uhhhh...yeah."Early but UConn at this point has better guards than Johnnies and also has advantage of returning more solid guys like Karaban, Bell, Stewart, Ross and Reed.
Of course we can beat them, but just noting the obvious at this early juncture. Retooling the entire SJU backcourt takes time and is complicated.
Agreed, getting him to run the point and still grabbing Darling would have made a nice PG combo, kind of like what UConn did with him and Smith.Absolutely a world where you get both.
I wonder if the real regret is dismissing the notion of Demary being a PG and basically letting him go to UConn.
I think the staff, and Rick, misread the PG market. They thought more guys would jump in, and then things got expensive. In general, I always like the idea of having a homegrown guy on the roster to prevent this.Agreed, getting him to run the point and still grabbing Darling would have made a nice PG combo, kind of like what UConn did with him and Smith.
ehhh... while correct... peaking means nothing if we dont take care of bizness in our OOCNothing matters but peaking in March
im with you here... FLoor is 3-3.... if we dont get 3 wins... were gonna have to sweep UConn / win the BET to Get* in to the TourneyI think as long as we split our six OOC games against power conference opponents we’ll be fine.
It’ll just mean we’re a feisty four seed, playing a team we’d want to avoid in the S16ehhh... while correct... peaking means nothing if we dont take care of bizness in our OOC
peaking in March, with a 1-5 record in our Big OOC games... not a 4 seed this year... play-in if best. It’ll just mean we’re a feisty four seed, playing a team we’d want to avoid in the S16
i think if we win two of the big games in the OOC (let’s say Ole Miss and Baylor), plus beat UConn 1x and sweep Creighton, I think we would be a 4/5 seed. Not ideal anyway.peaking in March, with a 1-5 record in our Big OOC games... not a 4 seed this year... play-in if best.
We need to get 2 of 3 out in Vegas and then a split vs Ole Miss/UK.
Personally- i see us 4-1 in the remaining 5 big ones
All the opponents you noted are really well coached, especially ISU, Ole Miss w Beard and of course the BE guys. It is a transitional year for McD at Creighton, but in that Omaha environment he will make a sweep tough. Doable, but challenging.i think if we win two of the big games in the OOC (let’s say Ole Miss and Baylor), plus beat UConn 1x and sweep Creighton, I think we would be a 4/5 seed. Not ideal anyway.
I do think we beat Iowa State and Baylor, as well as Ole Miss.
We may catch Kentucky in a vulnerable spot. Lowe dislocated his PG, and JQ still hasn’t played/not expected to play in next few weeks. At best, he will be in there working off rust/figuring out his new team.
ehhh... going 2-4 against Real comp in the OOC... with the way the BE is shaping up... not ideal for our "metrics"i think if we win two of the big games in the OOC (let’s say Ole Miss and Baylor), plus beat UConn 1x and sweep Creighton, I think we would be a 4/5 seed. Not ideal anyway.

Getting a 4/5 would mean we should* be ranked inside the top 20... dont see that as the case with only 1 more win against a ranked team (UConn) the rest of the season.
Here's to hoping GTown finishes the OOC strong... UConn remains top 10... Creighton gets some key OOC wins.... and one of the Prov/Marquette/Nova pulls it together...
I think a victory over Iowa St will "age" well... they have a good squad and are well coached... can see them finishing top3 in the B12.I think the team needed to beat either Alabama or Kentucky to get a top seed in the tournament (top being 1 or 2 seed). Would have been nice to get that one in the pocket already but so be it.
At this point I think they have to beat Baylor and Ole Miss along with Kentucky. Can probably suffer a loss against Iowa State (win obviously better) but need to really clean up in conference play. At least one win against Pukon is required for the resume and probably can't suffer too many "tough" losses (road games to Butler, Creighton, etc.). As bad as the Big East has looked, the league is not doing any resume favors.
Yep - Hurley posted exactly that this weekend, that moving forward playing "7 or 8" games like BYU (high majors) and maybe only four "buy" games.St. John's Red Storm Nitty Gritty at Bracketologists

Still only two weeks into the season, but as of right now:
5 Q3 conference games (DePaul, Providence, Butler, Georgetown, Seton Hall)
1 Q4 conference game (Seton Hall)
In comparison to Alabama's schedule (SEC):
1 Q3 conference game (South Carolina)
In comparison to Purdue's schedule (Big Ten):
2 Q3 conference games (Minnesota and Washington)
In comparison to Iowa State's schedule (Big 12):
2 Q3 (Colorado, Oklahoma State)
In comparison to Clemson's schedule (ACC):
3 Q3 conference games (Florida State, Georgia Tech, NC State)
3 Q4 conference games (Boston College, Miami, Virginia Tech)
It's just pathetic. Hurley knows it, that's why he's having less buy games. I agree with the approach. This schedule was an upgrade, but as long as DePaul/Butler/Seton Hall are what they are, plus an incompetent Providence, we should schedule more reliable Q1/2 games.
