My paternal grandmother, who passed in 2019, lived until 106. My grandmother's niece, who passed away in 2020 at 100 years of age, said she believed my grandmother was 107. Both my grandmother and her niece were in their "right minds" upon their passing.

My father, who passed away in 2020, lived to 100 (made it by two months).

A neighbor who lived across from my father, passed away in 2024 lived to 102.

Just amazing as both still had their minds at the end. My father walked
With a cane when he was out of the house his last couple of years as did the neighbor.

Publicly it seemed like they overplayed their hand, but I'm not too certain Pitino ever planned on keeping him.

You could be right. They met with Pitino and afterwards reopened his recruiting but saying St. John’s was still an option. Pitino said “No, we’re not” as he publicly stated we were not an option and we’re not recruiting him to which his mother was quoted as saying “Damn!”

Went to USC, got injured after the first game and redshirted. Transferred to ASU and never played as he was suspended and never reinstated.

I think it's fair to say at this point he's had other issues besides his mom. Maybe dropping a level to Sacramento State will do the trick for him.
