New York Mets 2025 Season

That was as Metsian a loss as you’re gonna get. That’s the thanks we get rooting for this team.
Rooting is a weird thing. I don’t especially like this team, although the young pitchers have certainly changed that to a definite degree but I still live and die with games like today’s.
But I also can let losses like this go much quicker than say last year, because frankly, I don’t think this team really lives and dies with losses like this, unlike last years team.
No leadership, no chemistry, lackadaisical losses like today, with everything on the line, just changes the dynamic for me.

Mets did so many things wrong it’s so hard to just pick on one.

I will anyway. Can someone get to Francisco Alvarez and let him know he DOESN’T have to swing at every single pitch.

His last two ABs he offered at almost every pitch. The DP was the most predictable thing ever. He has no idea how to zone pitches. Guy wants to play hero ball and all he is is undisciplined.

I’ve stopped living and dying with my teams due to the fact I’m almost 50, these teams NEVER win any championships and these players make more than I ever will playing a kids game. It may sound dumb, and I always root for the teams I root for no matter what, but I refuse to let these teams dictate my mood the way I did when I was younger.

Um he should have bunted. But, no one does that anymore. Home runs only.

Bunted? ZERO chance Alvarez knows how to bunt.

I mean why would we try to win a game or something like that when we take a full rip while our helmet falls off and he falls to the ground while striking out or hitting into a solid double play!

To be fair, and I said it originally, almost no manager would do that nowadays. I’d be the idiot teaching them how to bunt in spring training and telling them to do so, especially in a tie game, but I’m an old bastard at this point.

I mean, Willie friggin Randolph not bunting in game 7, same situation.

lol, I don’t know what to say. You all know the teams I root for at this point. I mean Tottenham winning the Europa Cup was as close to a championship I’ve gotten in a long long long time…Germany did win the ‘14 World Cup.

But, I’ve seen how these movies end. I’m not gonna start arguments, punching walls, arguing with strangers because a team I root for lost. Excruciatingly. Again. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me a few hundred times, shame on me. No more.

Alvarez IMO was/is an incredibly overrated player. Ditto Baty, Mauricio and Acuna. While McLean, Tong and Sproat appear to have been coached up to know HOW to be pitchers, not just throwers, not one of the position players seem to have gotten the equivalent as players.
Obviously pitching can take you a long way but with what this team has shown since May, and losses like today, IMO, outside of Soto, and probably Lindor, this team needs to be looked at long and hard.
Included in my thinking is that Alonso is gone, but I thought that last year, so who knows.

We can’t close out the season by beating an inferior team and the reds are playing their hearts out beating a playoff team. Th e reds deserved the spot:

Not exactly The Comeback Kids
what’s so crazy is last years Mets built their identity by clawing back into games late. Despite having a lot of the same guys these team just rolls over late in games. I mean I’ll give them some props for tying the game last night, but then bases loaded with 1 out we couldn’t finish it

A few have pointed this out but the more I have time to stew on it, the more angry I am about Mendoza not sending out Diaz for the 11th

Diaz threw 7 pitches in the 10th (7 strikes by the way), he’s never been better than what he is currently. He’s lights out.

and yet with the reds breathing down our neck and 7 games left, Mendoza didn’t think it was important enough of a game to send him back out there?

What makes me the most upset about it, is with 7 games left, we have no proof that says x amount of the remaining games will even be close late. So there’s no reason to hold Diaz back when you are slapped in the face with an actual close, hanging in the balance late season game. What are you saving him for? We need every win

Just a horrible at bat by Nimmo, who used to know how to put the ball in play.
Not to sound condescending, but the Mets have a lot of the same guys but it seems apparent they got rid of three guys that REALLY mattered, Iglesias, Bader and Quintana.
Having “IT” is a very undefinable, elusive thing but especially in a group dynamic; last years team had it in spades, this years team obviously doesn’t. It is rudderless, from Stearns on down.
