I have concerns about Hopkins being injury prone . Clearly , if he is 100 percent he has the ability to be the standout , among the newcomers .

He’s also had a long layoff from BE level competition . We will see …

I’m sure Cooley felt similar to Pitino by not getting Hopkins to G’Town .
Rick must have felt that way , not getting Clayton 2 years ago .

And , even more so this past year when Clayton won the NCAA…
I don’t know Hopkins injury history beyond the one knee injury that caused him to miss the better part of the last 2 seasons (with last year in question if he missed time due to injury or just not wanting to spend his last year of eligibility playing for the Friars) but maybe you do. Please explain how you have come to the conclusion that he is injury prone. Thank you.

Have no idea if Hopkins just sat out for dubious reason you indicated . Seems conjecture at best .

Or , if in fact , not playing for 2 years due to a knee injury that Re- occurred doesn’t qualify as injury prone ?

I’m not a doctor but , if a Player the Caliber of Hopkins , pre injury , doesn’t play for 2 years it would seem he wasn’t 100 percent .

We will see , once play starts , what Hopkins has in his tank and we all hope he can deliver at the level expected .

Before his injury , Hopkins had a good shot at the NBA or a Pro Contract somewhere .
Now, given his age and not playing , that dream is likely further away .

Thank you .

Sounds like you are thrilled SJU landed him. 👀

But I forget when we met. You aren't a doctor were you ? I think you said you were in insurance but the 2nd to last year of Norm was a looong time ago

Kevin Durant missed over a year with an injury and came back as strong as ever. Really super premature to call Hopkins injury prone imho.

You guys just don't understand Sly. He does not want to think about the possibility that Bryce may be better than RJ, so he has to be down on Bryce to remain up on RJ. It's nothing personal, it's just a sort of zero-sum loyalty.

Stick to Law , not Psychology. If Hopkins is better than RJ we should be thrilled . I would be ..
Are you thinking Hopkins is BE POY material , without seeing him play for 2 years? That’s pretty bold of you , if so .

I think getting the rebounding forward from Cincinnati , Mitchell , is Pitino’s Plan B if Hopkins isn’t what he once was …

Mine is a opinion , just like yours .., nothing more , nothing less .

Let the Season play out . And , let’s see what happens .

And , NCJ , comparing Durant’s injury to Hopkins , isn’t a Medical Diagnosis , is it ?

On this team I think the strongest contender for BE POY is Zuby. After that Hopkins definitely has a chance considering that (a) he already was and (b) he is older and better coached now. But his health is a question mark. And I voted for Sanon on this thread, so bottom line is you are confusing your posters.

To be clear, I am and have been from the beginning a Dillon Mitchell guy. You can go check the receipts from the Portal thread, I have been beating the drum for that guy even before we landed him. Hugely important piece who may not be the leading scorer or rebounder but will be an enormous difference-maker.

So we agree on something!

LMF returns serve with the best of them.

Mitchell is no one’s Plan B and describing him as a rebounder is way off base. He is an experienced outstanding winning player, great man to man multiple position defender and a superior passer. Oh, and you are correct, he rebounds.
One of the real keys to whether the Johnnies become legitimate NC contenders IMO.

Sly, I'm a retired attorney not a retired physician so clearly not qualified to make a medical diagnosis. What I can do is make an analogy to a player who had a serious injury that kept him out for over a full season and came back healthy and ready to pick up where he left off.
In any event I am very optimistic that all of our guys, including Hopkins, will be ready to go come November and have big seasons for our Johnnies.

I think part of the issue with BHop is you have to decide if you believe that he was able to play last season but chose not to to maintain his elgibility. The games he appeared in he was almost his old self. After the setback the word was he could play but didn't want to waste the season in Providence and rumors were already stirring that he wanted one more year at St Johns and was willing to wait. I tend to believe the rumors. last time he played a full season he was unanimous All BE and I believe came 2nd in BE POY.

Yeah pump the brakes on those comparisons. Ron Ron was a truly special college player. Bryce Hopkins can be very good, but Ron is an entirely different category.
Better deep shooter, not as good as Ron on defense (but who was/is), more rebounding, but you're correct about how special a player Artest was for the Johnnies.

In this day-and-age, no one plays defense like Ron Artest. Heck, that's not only true in college BB, but in the NBA also.

Tom in Simsbury, now Tom in Salem, watched Bryce very closely in his outstanding year at Providence and gave me that comparison. The stats comparison bear it out.

Mitchell= this year's Aaron Scott
