SJU Offseason Thread (portal and recruiting discussions)

Looks like staff is waiting until targets are signed before greenlighting any formal announcements given Rick tweets about them immediately which he can't do unless they're signed
Doesn’t the rule still apply that no one connected with a school can publicly comment about a potential recruit until he is signed? Bill Esposito gave me a lecture about that some 40 years ago.

The Drexel pg visiting this week. He played 26 mpg last season. He has two years eligibility left. He can sub for Ian this year, have a great season and then be incumbent next year, all while earning big bucks, in NYC, being trained by Pitino. Sensing Mitchell is other signee. If so, we may be ranked no one pre season.

Definitely not.
Lot of talent trying to prove themselves. No chemistry or track record of success. Yet.
We'll get a lot of buzz. Zuby in particular should be on a lot of preseason lists. Both BE and nationally.

But we will not be ranked #1. Or even top 5.
And that's OK!

Absolutely! Much better to surprise the Hoops World and reap the kudos then to disappoint lofty expectations.

Richie Jackson out of St Agnes started in the backcourt with Carmine Calzonetti on the 65-66 frosh squad, then played backup for three varsity years. Might have had a better career if the 3 point line was available back then.
Same with Chris Mullin and others who shot without the 3 point line.
That’s what records can be misleading - The GREAT Joe DiMaggio, batting right handed, slammed countless long balls out to the outfield fences of extraordinary dimensions!
Drumroll
450 - 460’ to the left and center fences.
And the monuments were on the playing field.
I can remember some long shots bouncing around behind the monuments. The point is DiMaggio’s 300+ Home runs would’ve easily been over 500.
Chris Mullen would’ve had hundreds of more points.
Perspective.
Great time to follow the Redmen
