Thank You and Good Luck Sim

I promised myself I wouldn’t post much anymore for fear of being banned again but thought I would chime in here. As many know, I was never a Wilcher fan. Was he a nice kid, sure, fine team mate, I guess but I was never in the locker room. My judgement of him was purely on his in game performances. Did he have some fine moments, yes he did, as one mentioned, the pass to Zuby for the game winner was a winning play.

My criticism of him was his weak handle, his long range shooting and his weak on ball defense against quality guards which was clearly exposed in the Arkansas game where aside from him only scoring 2 points, spent more time on the bench from getting beat by their back court. Im not going to mention maturity issues cause in today’s game he’s not alone.

Could he have stayed and improved his game perhaps but obviously the coaching staff thought otherwise, hence Pitino’s priority of bring in multiple two guards. If you trust the process then you should not be complaining about his departure.

What I find head scratching and borderline hypocritical is that the very same people who support players getting large pay days and bringing in players from rival teams are now upset with the process when it hits home. And why is Wilcher being viewed as a victim when no one here even knows the reason behind his departure. Is he leaving cause he’s being recruited over or because he may be making more money elsewhere? I’m sure the kid as a college student will be making more money then most wage earners in a family of 4 will make, in fact it’s probably not even close.

Speaking of generations, I’m of the older generation. I’ve come to the realization of either I stop watching the sport or I come to terms with the reality of the situation which is what Coach P has clearly stated….. this is a business and these kids are professionals.. The NCAA is not coming in on the white horse to save the day, it is what it is and may be like this for some time to come.
That’s a very fair take

It’s possible that Walter Clayton not following Rick out of Iona was not just a matter of NY/Florida geography, that RJ’s departure wasn’t just about the benching, and that Sim and Brady’s exit isn’t just about being ‘recruited over.’ It’s possible that in addition to being a HOF coach and a great teacher, Rick is also a bit of a prick.

Prick Ritino is one heck of a coach!

Most really successful people do have a "bit of a prick" in them.

I wish Sim well. Seemed like a great kid and teammate.

This is what we get now. 100% of players are free agents every year and as a result the whole team needs to be recruited every year, including incumbent players. Without any changes this will be the new norm. At this point any player staying more than two years will be extremely rare.

Hey, its been a while since we have seen each other. I kind of lurk the site these days but with all the hysteria over recruiting, I decided to participate. Hoping to meet people in Vegas over Thanksgiving for the games there.
Hope all is well Ted!
