Available Lead Guards

Without Jackson? If he wants to come, I’ll sit in traffic on the Van Wyck on a holiday with road construction to drive him to campus. We can’t fit everyone and make everyone happy.
What does Jackson have to do with Wagner. We need a PG. Jackson is not a PG.

Right now this is who we have at PG:

This is who we have at the 2/3 spots: Sanon, Wilcher, maybe Sellers, Liotopoulos, Glover.

If we get Jackson then he slots in with Sanon and Sellers and Wilcher slides over to be the second PG (barring another signing).

But at the moment yes, Wagner (either with or without Lewis) fills a spot at which we have no current player other than Sim who clearly (and I'm a Sim fan) should not be thrown into being a 40 MPG PG. Regardless of Jackson.

I can easily envision Ian and Sim as our backcourt, with Lewis as the backup PG.
Coach wants size. Switching 1-4. That’s why Deivon sat even when healthy and Kadary started at PG.
Coach brought in Deivon to start as PG. He was limited in switching ability. Sim was brought in to start at PG. He has the physical tools. He has matured. He was great for us. Many many big plays and leadership. Just watch Vice to recall.
Our backcourt with Sim and Ian, fingers crossed, will be great. They are both big strong and skilled.
Lewis will learn and develop if he commits and then star as a Sophomore at PG if he accepts Coach’s tutelage.
All of course, The Good Lord willing.
Deivon sat when he came back healthy because Pitino liked his ability and the spark he brought off the bench and, we were winning with Sim starting. If Smith doesn’t get hurt, he stays in the starting lineup and Sim is the 6th man.

I respect that position. But!!!! What happened to the point made that Kadary was always a point guard?
I clearly remember Deivon holding up other teams’ 5s like he was holding up a tree.
Then why didn’t Coach always play That lineup?
My take is that Coach values Sim a lot, and sees a very bright and different future than many of us realize.
All good. It’s great to talk about the team and game that we all love and support. Respect.

Kadary was not always the “point guard.” Sometimes Smith brought the ball up and started the offense and then Kadary would take over and vice versa. It took time but they found a way for both ball dominant guards to figure it out and make it work.

Kadary was better on defense because of his ability to guard bigger guys and his quick hands, but Smith with his quick feet and hands was no slouch either.

I am looking for better consistency and more strength from Sim next year. I know it is hard for some to grasp (this is not directed at you) in this instant gratification world that some players do develop and get better as they gain more experience and keep working, but Sim is not a finished project yet and will be better next year.

Is anyone concerned that even if we land a PG, we don't have a backup PG? Sure we have plenty of guys who can handle, but talking guys who can look to distribute first.

Market seems a little sparse so far and realistically am expecting they go with a proven PG and coachable combo guard, who embraces distributing. Some fans assume Sim can rise to the occasion in latter role, but in 29 mpg last year he did not generate a reasonable number of assists. Hopefully he improves there if called upon.

I love your post. All well said. And I agree with it without buts or hesitation.
In modern times the Nets had Kyrie and Harden, and in the short time they played together it was beautiful.
In olden times it was Clyde and the Pearl.
I just believe that Coach is always developing. I truly believe he now envisions lead guards with size, who will share the ball and switch 1-4.
Watch: we will now sign a 5’10” “pure point guard”.
That’s the one of many great things about this Board. We listen, respect and discuss. It’s way better than when we used to hope and pray.

One thing I marvelled at last year was Kadary Richmond's pass first mentality. For a star level player, he was always looking to set up others and make the whole team better. His 2.65 to 1 assist to turnover ratio was truly outstanding. Filling the void that he left will be a challenge but hopefully we will find the right people to do it.
