...What I can tell you is RJ going into the Portal is an option. Not definite and not even definite that he would leave even if he does go into the Portal.

Be clear, SJU will be good either way. They have the best coach they could possibly have and they will get players either way.
Have to admit, I'm feeling sick reading about this. Getting good players is one thing, but if he's gone, we are losing the BE Player of the Year, and are fooling ourselves if we think that doesn't make a difference on next year's roster. Big numbers to replace and big shoes to filll, especially for someone who's a great talent (again, POY), a class act, and a great teammate.

Totally agree and not worried at all. Just not wishing him good riddance and acting like he didn’t just do fantastic things for us last year like most in there are.
I think some of it is over the top but I get where they are coming from. He had a top three season in school history, and should be remembered as a central figure in the season that brought us back.

His effort against Arkansas was so mindbogglingly bad (and I’m not talking about the missed shots), that it taints it a little bit.

I really view him as our Julius Randle. Randle was a central guy bringing the Knicks back from nothing. Got us into the playoffs, winning 50 games, and made two all-NBAs. But he’s a flawed player and limits your ceiling as a top guy.

I’ll boo him wholeheartedly if he plays us next year. If he goes directly pro and not in college, I’ll follow his career closely. If portals and we never play him, I’m not going to root for bad things to happen.

Agreed. Bottom line is RJ saw the rest of the team struggling and tried to take control. Unfortunately it failed and everything blew up. We all make mistakes, it happens. I would love RJ back but if he leaves I'm rooting for him as long as he doesn't play against us
RJ did not try to take control.......he was out of control. Prior to his free throws he had missed a 3, missed a short jumper and was not passing the ball. Once Kadary Richmond was taken out of the game the sharing of the ball stopped completely.
The most inefficient players in the last few minutes were Devion Smith and Lefteris who missed almost every shot attempt.
Our backcourt was a horror show.
I can't see Pitino bringing Lefteris back as he was out of his league in D1.
I have no doubt our backcourt will be tremendously improved next season, especially in shooting ability.
Of course I hope RJ comes back but I also think the scoring will be more distributed with the players Pitino is pursuing.
The most important player is coming back and he is a warrior!

No guarantee RJ will make the NBA, so why not seize the moment. I would love to see him return but, if he were my kid, I would say something like......"for the rest of your life, you may never have this kind of earning leverage. Use it and don't look back".

We don't like it, but it makes sense for the players.

I saw someone make the argument on Twitter that he was concussed against Omaha. That would certainly make the last game make way more sense. I certainly looked at his interaction with Zuby in a different way.
I can't find the link but I did find that convincing + the only thing that would make it make sense like you said. He had a brutal hit to the head under 4 minutes against Omaha, and already had two reported concussions in the last 24 months

Respectfully disagree. At that point he saw himself as the best scorer wearing a St. John's jersey. 2nd team all American and big east player of the year. He put the team on his shoulders. Unfortunately, it didn't work out nor was it what the staff wanted. RJ made a mistake trying to take on too much and he had to deal with the consequences. I just hope this whole thing doesn't cost us another year of enjoying his play.

I don’t buy it. Would have been complete medical malpractice by the team to let him play/not even try to get a diagnosis if he was concussed.

If he had a concussion, isn't it mandatory to not play him?

Even if he was allowed to play him, why play him?
His thought process wouldn't be great anyway?

A concussion would certainly explain his Arkansas game

No one is saying RJ was the reason we lost. Look at the game stats. I think being the AA and POY was irrelevant in the game because he came no where close to those accolades in his performance and I think Pitino expected his AA to play like one.
RJ admitted as much.
That said, I felt that even before the game that our backcourt was on shaky ground.
After KR got into foul trouble the rest of the backcourt became instantly inferior to their Razorbacks counterparts. Lefteris didn't belong on the floor against these players.
Smith was playing injured and, as we realize throughout season, Simeon cannot run the team.
Let's try to imagine how RJ could be a more rounded player with better talent around him because outside of Zuby and him our offense stunk regardless of our incredible record.
